Box Score FORT VALLEY, GA – The Emmanuel Men's Volleyball team traveled to Fort Valley, Ga. tonight to take on Fort Valley State University in non-conference action. The match was a close one, with each team having strong moments, but Fort Valley State came away with a 3-0 win in straight sets, 25-20, 25-20, 25-19.
The first set was evenly matched, with each team getting 14 kills. The Lions got off to a quick 3-0 start, but the Wildcats would go on a 4-1 run to take a 7-6 lead. The Wildcats extended their lead to 18-13 midway through the set. The Lions would battle back to get within two points trialing 21-19, but Fort Valley State would close out the set on a 4-1 run to take the first, 25-20.
In the second it was the Wildcats that got off to a quick 4-1 start. The Lions would battle back to take a 7-6 lead. There would be multiple ties and lead changes early in the second set. After the Lions took a 12-11 lead on a service error by FVSU, the Wildcats would go on a 7-3 run to take a 18-14 lead. The Wildcats would close out the set with several mini runs, to take it 25-20.
In the third set, the Wildcats went on an early 10-1 run to take a 12-4 lead. The Lions would respond with a 7-1 run of their own, to cut the Wildcat lead to 14-11. The Lions would get within two points on a service error by FVSU, 18-16, but the Wildcats would close out the set on a 7-3 run to take the set, 25-19 and the match, 3-0.
Overall, the Lions had 29 kills, 3 aces, 3 blocks, 28 assists and 22 digs.
Senior,
Eli Zdonek led the team with 11 kills, with
Arturo Diaz-Dube contributing 7.
Greg Bodus had 2 aces on the night with Zdonek adding one. Zdonek, Diaz-Dube, and
Noah Langelier each had a block on the night.
Abdallah Roshdy led the team with 12 assists, with Langelier contributing 8.
Nicklas Eichenberger had 5 digs in the match, with
Lucas Nieves adding 4.
