tieFRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Lacrosse team hosted the Thomas More University Saints today in non-conference action. The Lions got off to a fast start and controlled the pace of the game throughout all four periods to earn a 23-10 victory. With the win, the Lions improve to 7-2 on the season.
Paige Murphy got things started for the Lions with a goal with 12:10 to play in the first to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. She added her second goal of the day just two minutes later to make it 2-0, Lions.
Kristie Fisher added to the Lions lead with 9:26 to play in the first, with a goal assisted by Murphy to make it 3-0, Lions. The Saints got on the board with 7:35 to play to make it 3-1, but the Lions answered back with a goal by Murphy, assisted by
Meghan Jennings to make it 4-1, Lions. The Saints found net with 5:37 to play in the first to cut the lead to 4-2, but Emmanuel would respond with a goal by
Lauren Kuschel, with 4:58 to play to make it 5-2, Lions. The Saints scored with 4:00 on the clock to make it 5-3, but the Lions answered back with a goal by Jennings with 2:49 to play in the first, assisted by Murphy to make it 6-3. Kuschel added her second goal of the day with 2:40 to play in the period to go up 7-3. With 1:08 to play in the first, Kuschel found net for the third time with a goal assisted by Jennings. Thomas More closed out the period with a goal to make it 8-4 Lions after one.
In the second,
Mikaela Austin got in on the action, scoring with 14:12 to play in the period, assisted by Murphy to make it 9-4 Lions. With 10:58 to play, Kuschel scored her fourth of the day, assisted by Murphy to give Emmanuel a 10-4 lead. Twenty seconds later, Murphy found the net, assisted by Jennings, to make it 11-4, Lions. Kuschel extended the Lions lead with 9:58 to play, making it 12-4, Emmanuel. The Saints added a goal with 8:02 left in the second to make it 12-5. Jennings would respond with back-to-back goals, one assisted by Fisher, to give the Lions a 14-5 lead. The Saints would score the next two goals to bring the game to 14-7, Lions. Kuschel would add her fifth of the day with 2:52 to play in the period to make it 15-7, Emmanuel.
Demi Czynski got into the action with 1:26 to play, assisted by Kuschel to give the Lions a 16-7 lead.
Thomas More got things started in the third period with a goal at the 13:58 mark to make it 16-8. Murphy scored with 5:43 to play to make it 17-8, Lions. The Saints would score the next two goals to make it 17-10. With :26 to play in the third period, Murphy found net for the fifth time to give the Lions an 18-10 lead.
The Lions continued to play strong with the fourth period, with
Megan Williams adding a goal with 12:49 to play. Assisted by Fisher to give the Lions a 19-10 lead. Kuschel tacked on another goal for the home team with 12:37 to play, assisted by Murphy to make it 20-10, Lions. With 10:41 to play in the game, Jennings found net, assisted by Kuschel to give the Lions a 21-10 lead. Murphy tacked on her seventh goal of the day with 5:25 to play to give Emmanuel a 22-10 advantage. She finished the game out with a goal with 2:31 to play, assisted by Czynski to make the final score 23-10, Lions.
Paige Murphy ended the night with eight goals and five assists.
Lauren Kuschel contributed seven goals and three assists, while
Meghan Jennings added four goals and three assists.
Next up, the Lions will travel to Young Harris College on Saturday at 12PM to face the Mountain Lions in Conference Carolinas action.
