Lions Sweep SWU in Midweek Series!

 
Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Softball team hosted Southern Wesleyan University today in conference play. The Lions got off to a fast start, with a 7-run third inning help them complete the shutout of the Warriors in game one, 13-0. In game two, the Lions won a close one, 10-9 to improve to 23-20 on the season, 10-8 in conference. 
 
GAME ONE – 
 
Jaryn Gibson got things started for the Lions in the 2nd inning with a home-run to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. 
 
The Lions kept things rolling offensively in the bottom of the 3rd. Ellee Varner started things off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Lexi Jordan singled to center to advance Varner to third. Alyssa Adams followed that up with a double to left to score Varner and give the Lions a 2-0 lead. Gibson went yard for the second time in the game to give the Lions a 5-0 lead. After Isabel Harrison walked, Gabby Buffington singled. With runners on first and second, Kelley Feigen homered to left to give the Lions an 8-0 lead. 
 
In the bottom of the 4th, the Lions kept things going. Jordan started things off with a triple to right. Adams followed that up with a single to center to score Jordan, making the score 9-0, Lions. Gibson walked to advance Adams to 2nd, and Harrison followed that up with a single to left to load the bases. Buffington singled to right to score Adams and give the Lions a 10-0 lead. Feigen kept things going for the Lions with a single to left to score Harrison and Giovanna Sardono (pinch runner for Gibson) making the score 12-0, Lions. Kyna Cheney singled to score Buffington and make it 13-0, Lions which would be the final score.
 
At the plate, Kelley Feigen was 3-3 with 5 RBIs, and Jaryn Gibson was 2-3 with 4 RBI's. 
 
On the mound, Maddie Edwards got the start. She pitched a complete game, giving up 2 hits and striking out 9 in 5 innings of work. 
 
GAME TWO 
 
It was the Warriors who got off to a quick start in game two, scoring six runs on three hits to take a 6-0 lead. The Lions responded in the bottom of the 1st. Ellee Varner started with a single to shortstop. Lexi Jordan reached on an error, with Varner advancing to 2nd. Alyssa Adams kept things going with a double to center to score Varner and make it 6-1, Warriors. Isabel Harrison followed it up with a single to right field to score Jordan and Adams, to make it 6-3, Warriors. Kelley Feigen singled to left to score Harrison and make it 6-4. 
 
The score stayed this way until the top of the 6th when SWU scored one run on one hit to make it 7-4. The Lions took over the lead in the bottom of the 6th. Gabby Buffington started things off with a double to left. Kinsley Goolsby got on base via walk and Aggie Bennett took advantage with a double to left to score Buffington, making it 7-5, SWU. Varner reached on an error to score Abby Rocco (pinch runner for Goolsby) and make it 7-6, Warriors. Jordan followed that up with a single to right to score Bennett and tie the game up at 7-7. Adams kept things going with a double to center to score Jordan and Varner, making it 9-7, Lions. 
 
The Warriors tied things back up in the top of the 7th, scoring two runs to make it 9-9. In the bottom of the 7th, the Lions won via walk-off with Kelley Feigen hitting a homer to center to make the final score 10-9. 
 
At the plate, Alyssa Adams was 3-4 with 3 RBI's. 
 
On the mound, Macy Kelley got the start. She faced five batters, giving up three runs on one hit, striking out one batter and walking two. Isabel Harrison came in to relieve her, pitching 6.1 innings. She gave up six runs on six hits, struck out three batters and walked three. 
 
With the sweep, the Lions improve to 23-20 on the season, 10-8 in conference play. Next up, the Lions will host North Greenville University for a conference series on Friday with games at 2 & 4PM.
