Lions Fall to North Greenville in Five Sets, 3-2

Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Men's Volleyball team hosted North Greenville University to close out the regular season tonight. The Lions got off to a strong start, winning set one 25-23, but the Crusaders responded to take the next two sets, 25-23, 25-21. The Lions would respond with a win in set four, 25-23, but the Crusaders finished off the match with a 15-6 win in set 5 to take the match 3-2. 
 
The Lions jumped out to an early 3-1 lead, but the Crusaders responded. A 4-0 run helped to extend the Lions lead to 13-7 midway through the set. The Lions extended their lead to six points at 17-11, but the Crusaders responded well to get the set within one points late, 23-22.The Lions would score the final two points of the set to take it, 25-23. 
 
The second set was back and forth early, with both teams making plays. There were several ties and lead changes throughout the set. Tied at 23-23, the Crusaders would score the final two points of the set to take it, 25-23. 
 
The third set was similar to the 2nd, with several ties and lead changes. The Crusaders would take a 3-point lead midway through the set, 14-11, but the Lions would respond to tie things back up at 16-16. The Crusaders took the lead again at 21-20 and held onto take the set, 25-21. 
 
In the fourth set, the two teams started off going back and forth, but the Lions began to pull away going on a run to take a 4-point lead, 7-3. NGU would respond, but the Lions continued to pull away, getting up by as much as five points, 18-13. NGU would answer back to get within one point of the lead, 24-23 but the Lions would close out the set to win it, 25-23. 
 
In the final set, the teams went back and forth early. After being tied at 5-5, the Crusaders went on a 10-1 run to take the set, 15-6 and the match 3-2.  
 
Overall, the Lions had 48 kills, 45 assists, 5 aces, 9 blocks, and 42 digs. 
 
Eli Zdonek led the Lions with 20 kills and 3 aces on the night. Abdallah Roshdy had 40 of the Lions' 45 assists and contributed an ace. Arturo Diaz-Dube led the Lions with 2.5 blocks on the night, with Roshdy adding 2, and Harrison Coelho and Andrew Michael adding 1.5 a piece. Nick Eichenberger had 17 digs on the night to lead the Lions.
