Duncan, SC – The Emmanuel Softball team continued play in the Conference Carolinas tournament today with a game against North Greenville University. The Lions used a 5-run 3
rd inning to take an early lead and would hold on at the end to earn a 6-3 win and a spot in the Championship game tomorrow against Francis Marion.
The two teams were scoreless until the 3
rd inning when the Lions bats got active.
Lexi Jordan started the inning off with a single to center and
Alyssa Adams quickly brought her home with her second home-run of the day to give the Lions a 2-0 lead.
Jaryn Gibson got hit by a pitch and
Kelley Feigen singled to center to put runners on 1
st and 2
nd for
Isabel Harrison. Harrison delivered with a single up the middle to score Feigen and
Ciara Passmore (pinch runner) and give the Lions a 4-0 lead.
Gabby Buffington hit a single and
Kinsley Goolsby singled up the middle to score Harrison and give the Lions a 5-0 lead. The Crusaders answered back quickly, scoring 3 runs on 5 hits in the bottom half of the inning.
There was nothing going for either team until the 6
th inning when the Lions added to their lead. Jordan walked to start the inning, advancing to 2
nd on a ground out. Gibson singled up the middle to score Jordan, making the score 6-3, Lions.
The Crusaders would threaten in the bottom of the 7
th, leaving two runners on base but the Lions held on to win 6-3 and move onto the Championship game where they'll face #1 seed Francis Marion tomorrow at noon.
At the plate,
Jaryn Gibson,
Kelley Feigen and
Isabel Harrison each recorded 2 hits.
On the mound,
Macy Kelley got the start throwing 2.2 innings and giving up 3 runs on 7 hits.
Maddie Edwards relieved her, pitching the final 4.1 innings. She gave up 5 hits and struck out 2 batters, walking 1.
