Lions Sweep Converse Series!

Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Softball team hosted the Converse University Valkyries this afternoon in Conference Carolinas action. The Lions got off to a quick start, taking game one, 12-1 and followed that up with a 10-0 victory in game two. With the wins, the Lions improve to 18-19 overall, 7-7 in conference play.
 
GAME ONE – 
 
Converse got on the board first in game one, with a run on two hits and an error in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead. The Lions answered back quickly. Ellee Varner got things started with a single to shortstop. Lexi Jordan singled to center to advance Varner to third, and then Alyssa Adams cleared the bases with a 3-run homerun to put the Lions on top, 3-1. 
 
The Lions added to their lead in the bottom of the 2nd. Isabel Harrison kept the momentum going for Emmanuel with a solo homerun to right field to make it 4-1, Lions. Hannah Wright smacked a double to left and Jordan brought Lindsey Crawford (pinch runner for Wright) home with a double of her own to make it 5-1, Lions. 
 
The score stayed the same until the bottom of the 6th when the Lions got back in action. Kelley Feigen started things off with a single to center. Harrison doubled to center to advance Giovanna Sardono (pinch runner for Feigen) to third. Abby Rocco loaded the bases with a walk and Abigail Curry reached on a fielder's choice, with Sardono getting thrown out at home. Jordan took advantage of a bases-loaded situation, singling to center to score Rocco and Harrison to give the Lions a 7-1 lead. Adams kept things going with a single to third, and Jaryn Gibson cleared the bases with a grand slam to give Emmanuel the 11-1 victory.
 
At the plate, Alyssa Adams was 4-4 with a homerun and 3 RBI's.
 
On the mound, Maddie Edwards pitched a complete game throwing 6 innings and giving up one run on four hits. She struck out seven batters. 
 
GAME TWO
 
 The Lions picked up where they left off in game two of the day, getting on the board early. Ellee Varner started things off with a walk, then Lexi Jordan singled to advance Varner to third, but Jordan was thrown out on the play. Varner scored on a passed ball to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
 
In the bottom of the 2nd, the Lions kept things going. Isabel Harrison singled to center and Gabby Buffington walked to put runners on first and second. Hannah Wright took advantage, hitting a double to left to score Buffington and Harrison, making the score 3-0, Lions. Lindsey Crawford came in as a pinch runner for Wright, and Kinsley Goolsby brought her home with a 2-run homerun to make the score 5-0, Lions. 
 
The Lions added to their lead in the bottom of the 3rd. Alyssa Adams got on base via walk, advancing to third on a single by Jaryn Gibson. Harrison singled to right to score Shelby Aiken (pinch runner for Adams), giving the Lions a 6-0 lead. Wright reached on a hit by pitch, advancing to second on a wild pitch that scored Giovanna Sardono (pinch runner for Gibson) giving the Lions a 7-0 lead. 
 
In the bottom of the 4th, the Lions tacked on three more runs. Varner singled to start the inning. Jordan walked to put runners on first and second for Adams. Adams singled to third to score Varner making the score 8-0, Lions. Gibson walked to advance the runners and Harrison singled to right to score Adams and Jordan. 10-0 would be the final score.
 
At the plate, Isabel Harrison went 3-3 and Kinsley Gooslby went 2-2. 
 
On the mound, Macy Kelley pitched a perfect game, not giving up a hit or a run in five innings of work. 
 
With the wins, the Lions improve to 18-19 on the season and 7-7 in conference action.
