Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Lacrosse team hosted Converse University tonight in Conference Carolinas action. The Lions got off to a quick start, scoring 7 goals in the first period. Emmanuel controlled the pace of the game the rest of the way to earn a 21-10 victory over the Valkyries. With the win, the Lions improve to 11-4 on the season, 4-3 in conference play.
Paige Murphy got the scoring started for the Lions, finding the net with 14:14 to play in the first to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
Kristie Fisher gave the Lions a 2-0 lead with 12:38 to play in the first. The Valkyries would score the next two goals to tie things up at 2-2, but the Lions would respond.
Ashley Mercker gave the Lions a 3-2 lead with 7:45 to play in the first, assisted by Murphy. Murphy grabbed her second goal of the game with 4:34 to go, to make it 4-2, Lions. With 3:58 to go,
Meghan Jennings made it 5-2, assisted by Murphy. Converse would get a goal back to make it 5-3, but the Lions would score the final two goals of the period. Mercker scored with 1:44 to play in the period, assisted by
Demi Czynski to make it 6-3 and
Paige Murphy added her third of the night with just three seconds to play, assisted by
Madison Pena to make it 7-3 after the first.
In the second, the Valkyries got things started with a goal to cut the Lions lead to 7-4. But, the Lions responded with two goals to add to their lead. Murphy added her fourth of the night with 11:16 to go in the period to make it 8-4.
Lauren Kuschel scored her first of the night with 7:39 to go in the period to go up 9-4. Converse made it 9-5 with 6:46 to go in the period, but the Lions answered back. Murphy added her fifth of the night with 4:00 to go to make it 10-5 and Jennings found the net with 28 seconds left in the period to put the Lions up 11-5. Converse would score the final two goals of the period to make it 11-7 heading into the 3
rd.
The Lions had quite the third period, outscoring the Valkyries 5-1. With 12:34 to play in the period, Kuschel found the net again, assisted by
Mikaela Austin to give the Lions a 12-7 lead. A goal by Fisher, assisted by Austin with 10:56 to go would help the Lions go up 13-7. Murphy would tack on her sixth of the night with 9:55 to play in the 3
rd, to make it 14-7, Lions. Thirty seconds later, Fisher added onto the Lions lead to make it 15-7. A minute later, Jennings scored, assisted by Kuschel to give the Lions a 16-7 lead. Czynski scored her first of the night with 5:41 to play in the period, assisted by Kuschel to make it 17-7. Converse closed out the period with a goal to make it 17-8 after the 3
rd.
In the fourth, Jennings got things started for the Lions with a goal with 14:25 to play in the game, assisted by Kuschel to give the Lions a 18-8 lead. Converse would get back on the board with a goal at the 9:35 mark to make it 18-9. Fisher would respond to make it 19-9 with 8:29 to play. The Valkyries would add a goal to make it 19-10 with 6:45 to play. Murphy scored her seventh with 5:31 to play, assisted by Austin to give the Lions a 20-10 lead. Fisher finished the period with a goal at 3:14, assisted by Austin to make the final score 21-10.
