Lions Fall to Mount Olive in Four Sets

Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Men's Volleyball team hosted Mount Olive tonight for Senior Night. The match was back and forth, which each team having their moments, but ultimately the Trojans would take home the 3-1 win, taking the first two sets, 26-24, 25-13, before losing the third, 25-23, and finishing off with a 25-23 win in set four. With the loss, the Lions fall to 9-17 overall, 3-9 in conference play. 
 
In the first set, the Lions jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead. The Trojans responded to tie things up midway through the set at 18-18. The teams closed out the set with multiple ties and lead changes, but the Trojans would score the final two points, to earn a first set victory, 26-24. 
 
In the second set, the Trojans jumped out to an early 7-2 lead. Mount Olive would use a 10-3 run to finish out the set, 25-13. 
 
The Lions would respond well in set three.  The set started off with multiple ties and lead changes, with the Lions taking a 6-3 lead early. Mount Olive would respond to tie things at 8-8, but the Lions took an 11-10 lead on an attack error by the Trojans and would control the pace of the game the rest of the way. The Trojans would tie things up for the final time at 18-18 but the Lions would score the next three points and won the set, 25-23. 
 
The fourth set was another close one. The two teams started off going back and forth, with the Trojans pulling away to take an 8-4 lead. The Lions would answer back with a 4-0 run to tie things at 8-8. The Trojans would take the lead midway through the set and get up by as much as four points, 20-16 but the Lions would pull within one, 23-22. However, the Trojans would close out the set strong to take it 25-23.
 
Overall, the Lions had 50 kills, 46 assists, 3 aces, 7 blocks and 36 digs. 
 
Eli Zdonek led the Lions with 18 kills on the night, with Arturo Diaz-Dube contributing 10. Abdallah Roshdy had 39 of Emmanuel's 46 assists. Three Lions had an ace at the service line, (Zdonek, Greg Bodus, and Noah Langelier), with Bodus leading the Lions with 2.5 blocks on the night. Nick Eichenberger finished the night with 12 digs.
