Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Baseball team hosted Chowan University this weekend in Conference Carolinas play. Game one was a pitchers' duel, with the Lions earning a 3-2 win. The Lions bats were on full display in game two, as dominated for a 22-2 win. In game three, the Lions blanked the Hawks, 7-0 to take the series.
With the series win, the Lions improve to 24-14 overall, 13-8 in conference play.
GAME ONE –
The Lions got on the board in the bottom of the first inning.
Jesus Cruz reached on a walk and
Thomas Collins reached on an error to put runners on first and second.
Brock Wollin hit into a double play, with Cruz advancing to third and he scored on a passed ball to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
The Lions added to their lead in the bottom of the 2
nd.
Ryan Muniz doubled to center and scored on an error by the catcher to make it 2-0, Lions.
The score stayed the same until the bottom of the 6
th when the Lions tacked on another run.
Nick Dietsch reached on a hit by pitch and
Hayden Beall doubled to center to bring him home, giving the Lions a 3-0 lead.
The Hawks scored two runs on two hits in the top of the 7
th to make it 3-2, Emmanuel which would be the final score.
At the plate, six Lions collected a hit.
On the mound,
Barrett Barkley got the start. He earned the win, throwing 5.1 innings and giving up five hits. He struck out seven batters and walked one.
Dosie Drakeford came in to relieve him pitching 1.2 innings. He gave up two runs on two hits, striking out a batter.
Clifford Brown finished the game off for the Lions, pitching two innings and giving up one hit, striking out four batters.
GAME TWO –
The Lions got off to a quick start in game two, scoring five runs in the first inning.
Jesus Cruz reached on a hit by pitch and
Thomas Collins followed that up with a walk. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch.
Brock Wollin singled to center to score Cruz and Collins to give the Lions a 2-0 lead.
Hayden Beall reached on a fielder's choice, with Wollin getting thrown out at 2
nd.
Zachary Bergstrom walked to advance Beall to 2
nd and
Ryan Muniz reached on an error to score Beall and make it 3-0, Lions.
Dobbs Bowden reached on a walk, and
Bailey Stroud took advantage with a 2-RBI single to right to score Bergstrom and Muniz and give the Lions a 5-0 lead.
The Lions bats were on fire in the bottom of the 2
nd. Collins started things off with a single. Wollin singled to center, and
Brody Campbell followed that up with a single to right to score Collins and give the Lions a 6-0 lead.
Hayden Beall kept things going with a triple to score Wollin and Campbell, giving the Lions an 8-0 lead. Bergstrom singled to center to score Beall and make it 9-0. Muniz and Bowden walked to load the bases, and Stroud doubled to right to score Muniz and Bergstrom, making it 11-0. Cruz and Collins walked to score Bowden and make it 12-0. Campbell walked to score Stroud to make it 13-0, then runners advanced on a passed ball with Cruz scoring to give the Lions a 14-0 lead. Beall singled to right to score Collins and put the Lions up 15-0. Bergstrom walked and Bowden doubled to center to score Beall, Campbell, and Bergstrom to put the Lions up 18-0.
The Lions tacked on another run in the bottom of the third on a home run by Wollin to give the Lions a 19-0 lead.
The score stayed the same until the bottom of the 5
th. Van Gupton, Jr. walked to start the inning.
Dee Oliver reached on a fielder's choice, but Gupton, Jr. was thrown out at 2
nd. Oliver reached 2
nd on a wild pitch, and
Cole Babich was hit by a pitch. Campbell walked to load the bases, and
Cooper Tomkinson walked to score Oliver and give the Lions a 20-0 lead.
Walker Hawks singled to right to score Campbell and Babich and make it 22-0.
Chowan scored two runs on three hits in the top of the 7
th to make it 22-2, which would be the final score.
At the plate,
Brock Wollin was 3-4 with 3 RBI's.
Bailey Stroud was 2-3 with 4 RBI's.
On the mound,
Ethan Pooler got the start and threw 4 innings. He gave up 5 hits and struck out four batters, walking one.
Hunter Maddox came in next and earned the win. He pitched an inning and struck out one batter, walking another.
Bubba Luke came in next, throwing 1 inning, walking one batter.
Eli Roach closed out the game for the Lions, giving up two runs on three hits, striking out a batter.
GAME THREE –
The Lions got off to an early lead in game three of the series scoring a run in the 2
nd inning.
Brody Campbell got on base via walk and
Hayden Beall brought him home with a triple to right field to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
The Lions added to their lead in the bottom of the 3
rd.
Bailey Stroud singled to second and advanced a base on a balk.
Brock Wollin hit a homerun to left field to clear the bases and make it 3-0, Lions.
The score stayed that way until the bottom of the 6
th when the Lions extended their lead. Wollin started things off with a single to left. Campbell singled to right and
Nick Dietsch was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Beall tripled again to right to score Dietsch, Campbell, and Wollin to give the Lions a 6-0 lead. Stroud singled up the middle to score Beall and give the Lions a 7-0 lead.
Both teams threatened to score the rest of the way, but another run didn't get across and the Lions won 7-0.
At the plate,
Hayden Beall went 2-4 with 4 RBI's and a run scored.
Bailey Stroud went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
On the mound,
Hunter Pirkle got the start going 5 innings and striking out 6 batters. He gave up two hits and walked three batters.
Chase Lupton came in next, going 1.2 innings and giving up three hits. He struck out two batters and walked two.
Simon Boggie came in next, gong 1.1 innings and facing six batters. He gave up one hit and struck out two batters.
Noah Cantleberry closed out the game for the Lions and gave up one hit.
With the win, the Lions improve to 24-14 on the season and 13-8 in conference.
