Box Score San Angelo, TX - While we were sleeping, the Emmanuel Lions Volleyball team was busy earning their second win of the season in exciting fashion. The Lions faced Fort Lewis College in the 2024 Kathleen Brasfield Invitational. Due to highly competitive matches throughout the day, the two teams didn't begin play until after 11PM EST! Although each set was competitive, the Lions defeated the Skyhawks in straight sets, 26-24, 26-24, 25-21.
Set one was competitive with four ties and two lead changes. The teams traded points early, with the Skyhawks taking the lead, 10-5. The Lions would tie things up late, on a kill by sophomore,
Brianna Bigelow. The Lions would take the lead on a kill by
Ellie Jackson, but Fort Lewis would answer back to tie things at 24 all. Emmanuel would shut the door on the set, scoring the final two points to take set one, 26-24.
The second set was another battle. Fort Lewis took an early 7-2 lead and led through the match, but the Lions roared back to tie things at 22-22 on a block by Jackson. A service error by Fort Lewis and a block by
Sami Gambill and
Cailin Pritchard gave the Lions a 26-24 set win.
In the third set, the Lions took an early 4-1 lead, but the Skyhawks would answer back to tie things at 14. The third set saw eight ties and two lead changes. The two teams would trade points, with the Lions taking their final lead of the set at 22-21 on a kill by
Jocelyn Martin. The Lions would close the set out by scoring the final four points to earn a 25-21 set win, taking the match 3-0.
The Lions held a block party up front, with
Emily Hanson and
Cailin Pritchard leading the team with 5 blocks a piece.
Alaina Emminger was close behind with 4 blocks on the night.
Jocelyn Martin led the team in kills with 11 with
Asia Queen contributing 25 digs.
The Lions will be back in action today against Texas Permian Basin at 3PM Eastern time!
