Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Men's Basketball team hosted Shorter University tonight in conference play. The Lions got off to a hot start and led the Hawks, 44-35 at the break. The Lions controlled the pace of the second half behind a 26-point night from
Kendall Latney to earn an 89-73 victory. With the win, the Lions improve to 10-7 on the season, 8-1 in conference play.
The Lions jumped out to a 9-0 lead early with a strong start by
Chris Dees and
Kendall Latney. The Lions continued to control the pace of the game, pushing their lead to 21-4 with 14:45 to play in the first. The Hawks responded well, cutting the Lions lead to 3 points, 28-25, but back-to-back threes by
Jasper Gibson and
Devin Story pushed the Lions lead to 34-27. In the first half, the Lions were 17-29 from the field (58%) and made 6-11 from three-point range. The Lions closed out the half strong to lead 44-35 at the break.
After the half, the Lions continued to push the pace starting the second half on an 8-0 run to take a 52-35 lead. The Lions maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half, leading by as much as 21 points with 4:12 to play. The Lions shot 52.9% in the second half, with
Kendall Latney scoring 20 of his 26 points in the second. The Lions went onto win by 16, 89-73.
Three Lions ended the night in double figures scoring with
Kendall Latney leading the way with 26 points and 4 rebounds.
Chris Dees went 5-9 from three-point range, adding 19 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals and an assist.
Tavarus Webb contributed 17 points and 8 assists, while
Elisee Ehuie led the team with 7 rebounds.
