Lions Fall to Shorter 67-62

Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team hosted Shorter University tonight in Conference action. The Lions battled against the division leading Hawks, with the game knotted at 29-29 heading into the half. After a competitive third quarter, the Hawks finished strong to take home a 67-62 victory. With the loss, the Lions fall to 4-12 on the season, 3-6 in conference play.
 
The Lions jumped out to a 12-3 lead early in the first quarter, with a strong start from Abby Crawford and Maddie Futch. The Hawks responded well to cut the Lions lead to 14-12 to end the first quarter.  In the first, the Lions shot 37.5% from the field and connected on 2-5 three-point attempts. 
 
The Hawks started the second quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 18-14 lead. The Lions answered back with three consecutive threes by Futch to give the Lions a 25-20 lead. In the second, the Lions were 5-12 from the field and 3-6 from beyond the arc. The Hawks finished the quarter strong to tie things up at 29-29 heading into the break.
 
In the third quarter, the two teams traded points and the lead. The Hawks led by as much as five points with 2:33 to play, 45-40, but a three pointer by Naomi Roberts helped the Lions tie things back up at 45-45 to close out the third. In the quarter, the Lions were 5-12 from the field and 2-5 from three-point range. 
 
The Lions started out the fourth quarter on a 4-0 run to take the lead, 49-45. The Hawks responded well to retake the lead, getting up by as much as 6 points with 1:17 to play. The Lions shot 30.7% from the field in the fourth, connecting on 8-8 from the foul line. The Hawks finished the game at the foul line to win it, 67-62. 
 
Four Lions ended the night in double figures scoring with Maddie Futch leading the way with 18 points and 9 rebounds.   Abby Crawford contributed 15 points, while Ade'Jah James added 12 points and 6 rebounds. Naomi Roberts had 11 points and 6 assists in the contest.
