Box Score Los Angeles, CA – The Emmanuel Men's Volleyball team continued their trip out west with a match-up against #7 University of Southern California. The Trojans got off to a quick start taking the first set, 25-11. The home team carried their momentum into the 2
nd set, winning 25-9 and closing out the match with a 25-15 win in the third set. With the 3-0 loss, the Lions fall to 0-2 on the season.
The two teams traded points and the lead to start the first set. Emmanuel took a 6-3 lead on kill by
Greg Bodus, but the Trojans responded well to tie things up at 6-6. A kill by Thisj Van Der Wal made it 7-6, Emmanuel but USC would go on a 4-0 run to retake the lead, 10-7. Another 4- 0 run by the Trojans made it 14-8 USC midway through the first set. The Trojans took control of the set, outscoring the Lions 11-3 the rest of the way to win the set, 25-12.
The Trojans carried their momentum into the second set, quickly taking a 9-1 lead. USC controlled the pace of the set, increasing their lead to 14-4 midway through the set. The Lions made a few key plays, including kills by
Aedan Vanegas and
Ed-Verian Basson, but the Trojans closed set two out strong 25-9 win.
The Trojans took an early 4-1 lead in the third set. The Lions responded well with a kill by
Aidan Feeney and a service ace by
Bryan Povea to cut the Trojan's lead to 6-5. The Trojans answered back with a 6-1 run to make it 12-6. A kill by
Greg Bodus helped the Lions cut into the Trojan's lead to make it 15-8, but the Trojans would close the set out strong to take a 25-15 third set win and win the game, 3-0.
Overall, the Lions had 20 kills, 19 assists, 2 blocks and 16 digs and 1 ace. Thijs Van Der Wal led the way with 5 kills on the night.
Oliwer Wrobel contributed 16 assists, while
Bryan Povea added an ace.
Greg Bodus led the team with 2 blocks while
Aedan Vanegas had 5 digs.
