MOUNT OLIVE, NC – The Emmanuel Women's Soccer team traveled to Mount Olive, NC to face the University of Mount Olive Trojans in conference play. After a scoreless first half, the Lions took the lead on a goal by
Brianna Nguyen, 1-0. The Trojans tied things up in the 71
st minute to make the final score 1-1. With the draw, the Lions move to 4-6-3 on the season, 4-4-2 in conference action.
The first half was a defensive battle, with neither team finding the net. The Trojans outshot the Lions, 14-5 in the half but the Lions had more shots on goal, leading the Trojans 3-2. Lions Goalkeeper, Ana Ramirez Cortez ended the half with 2 saves in goal to help the Lions head into the break knotted with the Trojans at 0-0.
The Lions took the lead early in the 2
nd half with a goal by
Brianna Nguyen in the 51
st minute to give Emmanuel a 1-0 lead. This was Nguyen's 5
th goal of the season. Emmanuel held onto the lead until the Trojans tied things up in the 71
st minute to make it 1-1 which would be the final score. The Trojans outshot the Lions 14-4 in the half, with 5 shots on goal. Ramirez-Cortez ended the half with 4 saves to bring her total for the game to 6 saves.
