Lions Down Young Harris 3-1 to Tie Roar War!

Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Volleyball team hosted Young Harris College this afternoon in their final meeting of the Roar War. The Lions jumped out to a strong start, taking the first set 25-18. The Mountain Lions responded, earning the 2nd set win in extras, 26-24. The Lions took control in the 3rd set, earning a 25-17 win, closing out the match with a 25-11 victory in set 4 to earn the 3-1 win. With the win, the Lions improve to 12-6 overall, 10-2 in conference action.

The Lions jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the 1st set on kills by Ellie Jackson and Faith Kelly. The Mountain Lions responded to get within three points 10-7, but the Lions pulled ahead on kills by Kelly to make it 16-10, Lions. Kills by Kelly, Cailin Pritchard, and a service ace by Isabel Miller made it 20-13, Lions late, and a kill by Brianna Bigelow gave the Lions set point, 25-17. 

The Mountain Lions responded well in the 2nd set. Young Harris took an early 4-2 lead, pushing their lead to 10-7. Young Harris led 16-11 midway through the set when the Lions rallied on a 6-1run to tie things at 20-20 on kills by Brooke Lee and Cailin Pritchard. The two teams traded points and the lead the rest of the way, but the Mountain Lions scored the final two points of the set to earn the 26-24 win.

The third set saw the Lions take an early 6-3 lead on kills by Brooke Lee and Faith Kelly. The Lions would continue on a 7-1 run with kills by Ellia Jackson, Pritchard, and an ace by Miller. Late in the set, the Lions led by 11, 21-10 but Young Harris rallied with 6-1 run to cut the Lions lead to 22-16. The Lions closed out the set on a few attack errors by the Mountain Lions to earn the 25-18 win in set three.

The Lions continued their momentum into the 4th set with a 7-0 run. Marusa Pesut and Faith Kelly led the way for the Lions early with key plays. The Lions kept the foot on the gas with 9-0 run, made up to aces by Brooke Lee and kills by Jackson, Pesut, and Pritchard to make it 20-5. Emmanuel closed out the set strong to win the fourth set, 25-11 and winning the game, 3-1 to tie the Roar War standing at 3-3. 

Overall, the Lions had 53 kills, 8 aces, 5 blocks, 49 assists and 81 digs.

Ellie Jackson led the way with another double-double – 15 kills, 14 digs. Faith Kelly had a strong day up front with 13 kills. Brooke Lee led the team in aces with 3, while Marusa Pesut and Isabel Miller contributed 2 a piece. Pesut ended the afternoon with 41 assists, while Asia Queen and Pesut added 18 digs a piece.

Next up, the Lions will host Converse on Tuesday at 7PM for Block Out Cancer Night.
