Lions Down Chowan 3-0!

Box Score MURFREESBORO, NC – The Emmanuel Women's Volleyball team traveled to Murfreesboro, NC this evening to take on the Chowan University Hawks in conference play. The Lions jumped out to an early lead, taking the first set 25-19. Emmanuel carried their momentum into the final two sets, winning 25-19, 25-22 to earn the 3-0 sweep. With the win, the Lions move to 15-8 on the season, 12-4 in conference action. 

The two teams traded points and the lead to start the first set. The Lions pulled ahead on kills by Brianna Bigelow to go up 7-4, but the Hawks quickly tied things back up at 7. Midway through the set, the Lions pulled ahead again, 17-13 on kills by Cailin Pritchard and an ace by Isabel Miller. The Lions closed out the set strong on a 4-0 run to take the win, 25-19. 

The Lions took an early 7-3 lead in the 2nd set on kills by Faith Kelly and Brooke Lee. Chowan rallied to tie the set at 7, but the Lions roared back with a 7-0 run on kills by Ellie Jackson and Pritchard to make it 14-7 Lions. The Hawks cut the Lions lead to 14-12, but the Lions pulled ahead 16-13. Chowan used a 3-0 run to get within a point of the lead, 19-18 but the Lions finished the set on a 6-1 run to win the set, 25-19. 

The third set was just as competitive. Both teams made key plays early to force several ties and lead changes. The Lions pulled ahead on a 7-0 run to take a 12-6 lead on kills by Jackon and Pritchard. Unforced errors by the Lions late in the set helped the Hawks get within a point of the lead, 17-16. The teams traded points the rest of the way, with the Hawks knotting the set at 22-22 late. Kills by Marusa Pesut and Brooke Lee closed things out for the Lions giving them a 25-22 win in set three and a 3-0 sweep. 

Overall, the Lions had 43 kills, 34 assists, 6 aces, 52 digs and 11 blocks. 

Ellie Jackson led the way with 11 kills and 15 digs, with Faith Kelly adding 10 kills.  Isabel Miller and Marusa Pesut were strong at the service line with 2 aces a piece. Pesut also contributed 31 assists for the Lions, with Cailin Pritchard adding 1.5 blocks to lead the team.

Next up, the Lions will host Southern Wesleyan for Senior Day on November 5 at 7PM.
