CENTRAL, SC – The Emmanuel Women's Soccer team traveled to Central, SC to face the Southern Wesleyan University Warriors in conference play. The Lions jumped out ahead early taking a 1-0 lead heading into the half. The Warriors made things interesting late, tying the game at 2-2 to end it in a draw. With the draw, the Lions move to 6-6-4 overall on the season, 6-4-3 in conference action.
The Lions jumped out to a 1-0 lead early on a free kick by
Reagan Hill at 2:23. The Lions outshot the Warriors 7-5 in the first half with 3 shots on goal. In the first half, Emmanuel goalkeeper, Ana Ramirez Cortez had 3 saves.
After the break, the Lions added to their lead on a goal by
Brianna Nguyen, assisted by
Jillian Aldrich in the 61
st minute. This was Nguyen's 7
th goal of the season, to lead the team. In the half, the Warriors outshot the Lions, 7-2 with 3 shots on goal. The Warriors came on strong late, scoring two goals in the final four minutes of play to tie the game at 2-2, which was the final score. Ramirez-Cortez ended the day with 4 saves.
Next up, the Lions will head into postseason play as the 4
th seed in the Conference Carolinas Tournament. The Lions will host the winner of #5 Young Harris/#12 Mount Olive on Saturday, November 8
th at 5:30PM.
