ANDERSON, SC – The Emmanuel Men's Basketball team faced the Anderson University Trojans today in regional play. The Trojans jumped out to an early lead, taking a 49-38 lead into the break. Anderson carried their momentum into the second half to earn the 89-71 victory. With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-2 on the early season.
The Trojans opened up the scoring with a 5-2 run, but the Lions responded well with key plays by
Devin Story and
Andrija Vujacic to put the Lions up 10-8 with 16:24 to play in the first. The two teams traded points and the lead for the next several minutes, with
Ezra McKee,
Matthew McKenzie and
Micah Roebuck getting in on the action for the Lions. The Trojans pushed their lead up to 5, 25-20 with 9:43 to go in the half, but key shots by McKee would cut the lead to one, 29-28 with 7:06 to go. Anderson would answer with a scoring run of their own to make it 37-28 with 4:42 to go and they would push their lead up to 11 to end the half leading 49-38 at the break. In the first half, the Lions shot 14-24 from the field (58.3%) and 8-12 from the free throw line.
To start the second half, a layup by
Devin Story would cut the Trojans lead to 8, 53-45 but the Trojans answered to go up 13 with 14:23 to play, 61-48. Anderson would push their lead to 19, 71-52 with 7:40 to play and the home team would control the momentum the rest of the way. In the half, the Lions shot 43.3% and were 12-14 from the free throw line. The Trojans came away with an 89-71 victory.
Devin Story led the way for the Lions with 22 points, 2 steals, 2 assists and a block.
Ezra McKee came up big for the Lions with 21 points and 5 rebounds.
Isaac Jones picked up 2 assists and 2 steals.
Next up, the Lions will travel to Augusta, GA to face Augusta University on Wednesday at 7:30PM.
