Lions Fall to Shorter 56-46

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team hosted the Shorter University Hawks tonight in conference action. The Hawks took the early lead, heading into halftime up by 11, 32-21. Shorter extended their lead in the 2nd half, withstanding a late run by the Lions to take home the 56-46 win. With the win, the Lions fall to 7-3 overall, 4-2 in conference play.

The Hawks jumped out to an early lead, up 14-6 with 4:21 to play in the first quarter. A three-pointer by Hannah Harris cut the Hawks lead to 18-9 to end the first. In the quarter, the Lions shot 31% from the field but connected on 1-8 from the three-point line. 

The Lions rallied to start off the 2nd quarter with key baskets by Kate Jackson, Naomi Roberts and Carmen Cabello-Rivera to cut Shorter's lead to 18-16. The Hawks responded to push their lead up to 10 points, 28-18 with 3:30 to play in the quarter. Shorter would close out the quarter strong to take a 32-21 lead into the half. In the 2nd quarter, the Lions shot 5-14 from the field, connecting on 1-1 from the foul line. 

After the half, Shorter continued to control the pace of the game, extending their lead to 18 points. Natalee Goff and Naomi Roberts connected on some fast break layups, but the Hawks took a 47-29 lead into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth, the Hawks pushed their lead to 23 early, 52-29 but the Lions answered behind buckets from Roberts, Jackson and Cabello-Rivera to cut the Hawks lead to 8 with 3:31 to play, 54-46. The final two minutes of play was a defensive battle, with the Hawks holding off the Lions to earn the 56-46 win. The Lions shot 8-14 from the field in the quarter, connecting on 1-4 from three-point range.

Naomi Roberts led the Lions with 22 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and a block. Kate Jackson added 8 points and 15 rebounds, while Hannah Harris added 5 assists.

Next up, the Lions will travel to Florida to take on nationally ranked, Embry-Riddle in the 2025 ERAU Holiday Classic on Thursday at 11AM.
