FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team hosted the Toccoa Falls Screaming Eagles tonight in non-conference play. The Lions jumped out to an early lead and controlled the pace of the game the rest of the way to earn a 82-24 victory. With the win, the Lions improve to 6-2 on the season, 3-1 in conference action.
The Lions jumped out to an early lead behind jumpers from
Naomi Roberts and
Natalee Goff to make it 11-5 Lions with 3:38 to play in the first.
Kate Jackson got involved in the action with a layup in the paint to make it 15-5, Lions after the first. In the quarter, the Lions shot 6-19 from the field (32%) and 2-8 from three-point range.
The Lions offense got cooking in the second quarter behind key plays by
Carmen Cabello-Rivera who scored 12 of her 17 points in the quarter. Emmanuel pushed their lead to 30 points to end the half leading Toccoa Falls, 40-10. The Lions shot 10-18 from the field in the quarter, connecting on 3-6 from beyond the arc.
The third quarter saw the Lions continue to pull ahead behind key plays by Roberts, Goff, Jackson and
Lizzie Teasley and
Hannah Harris. Freshman,
Julie Azeltine showed off from 3-point range, and freshman
Jaleia Robinson made key shots inside to push the Lions lead to 60-12 with 17 seconds to play in the quarter. The Lions shot 50% from the field in the quarter, connecting on 2-6 from three-point range.
Breelyn Wood started off the fourth quarter with five quick points to push the Lions lead to 62-15 with 8:38 to play. Robinson continued to shine off the bench, showing off her range with a three-pointer to make it 78-22, Lions with 1:43 to play. The Lions closed out the game strong, earning the 82-24 victory.
Three Lions ended the night in double figures scoring, with
Carmen Cabello-Rivera leading the way with 17 points, going 3-4 from three-point range.
Kate Jackson and
Naomi Roberts each contributed 12 points, with Jackson adding 11 rebounds and 5 steals, and Roberts with 3 assists and 2 blocks.
Jaleia Robinson and
Natalee Goff each ended the night with 9 points and 9 rebounds apiece.
