Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Baseball team played their home opener this afternoon against the Mars Hill Lions. The Mars Hill Lions got off to a quick start, taking a 3-0 lead early but the Emmanuel Lions responded well with 7 unanswered runs to earn a 7-3 win. With the win, the Emmanuel Lions improve to 6-2 on the season.
After a scoreless first inning, Mars Hill got on the board first with three runs on two hits and two errors in the top of the 2
nd to take a 3-0 lead. The Emmanuel Lions responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning.
Cameron Hancock got on base with a walk, then
Nick Madrigal followed that up with a hit by pitch.
Drew Knight was walked to load the bases and
Ryan Muniz reached on an error to score Hancock, cutting the Mars Hill lead to 3-1.
After a scoreless 3
rd inning, the Emmanuel Lions got back to work in the bottom half of the 4
th. Madrigal got things started with a single to left. Knight doubled to left field to put Madrigal in scoring position.
Dobbs Bowden flied out to center field to score Nick McCoy (pinch runner for Madrigal) and cut the Mars Hill lead to 3-2. Muniz kept things going for the Lions with a single to right field to score Knight and tie things at 3-3. Muniz advanced to 2
nd on a passed ball, and
Brock Wollin brought him home with a double to center field to give Emmanuel a 4-3 lead.
The Lions added a run to their lead in the bottom of the 5
th.
Kyle Belich reached on a hit by pitch and Knight reached on a fielder's choice which put out Belich at 2
nd. Bowden singled to the pitcher to advance Knight to 2
nd, and Muniz followed that up with a single to center to score Knight giving Emmanuel a 5-3 lead.
In the bottom of the 6
th,
Landon Mokris kept things going with a solo homerun to make it 6-3, Emmanuel.
In the bottom of the 7
th, Muniz started things off with a triple to right field, scoring on a groundout to make the final score 7-3.
At the plate,
Drew Knight was 2-3 with 2 runs scored while
Ryan Muniz was 3-4 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI's.
On the mound,
Noah Olson got the start. He went 1.2 innings and gave up 3 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks.
Will Sherman relieved him, going 2.2 innings. He gave up 2 hits and struck out 2 batters, walking 1.
Bubba Luke came in next, facing 3 batters and causing 3 force outs.
JJ Neal relieved him to throw 1.0 innings, causing 3 groundouts.
Noah Cantleberry came in next, going three up and three down in one inning of work.
Gavin Richardson closed out the game for the Lions, pitching 2.0 innings. He gave up two hits and struck out one batter.
The Lions will be back in action on Thursday at Erskine College to start Conference play! First pitch will be at 2PM.
