Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Men's Lacrosse team hosted the Coker University Cobras this afternoon in regional play. The Lions jumped out to an early lead and withstood a late comeback from the Cobras to earn a 12-8 win! With the win, the Lions move to 2-2 on the season.
In the first quarter, the Lions got to work quickly with a goal by
Jared Weiss with 13:09 to play to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
Luke Hildebrandt found the net with 4:45 to go in the first to make it 2-0, Lions. With 2:48 to play in the quarter,
Luke Hildebrandt scored a second time, assisted by
Griffin Gibson-Thomas to put the Lions up, 3-0.
Jared Weiss followed that up by grabbing his second goal of the game with 1:56 to play in the quarter to give the Lions a 4-0 lead heading into the 2
nd.
Ryland Laturell kept things going for the Lions in the 2
nd quarter with a goal at 13:11, assisted by Gibson-Thomas to make it 5-0, Lions. Coker scored with 10:50 to play in the 2
nd to make it 5-1, but the Lions responded well with a goal at 9:10 by
Joshua Fodchuk to make it 6-1, Lions. The Cobras answered back with a goal to cut the Lions lead to 6-2, but Emmanuel scored the next three to close out the 2
nd quarter strong. Weiss grabbed his third goal with 4:58 to play in the quarter to make it 7-2, then
Tanner Park found the net with 3:17 to play, assisted by Fodchuk to give the Lions an 8-2 lead. Weiss closed out the quarter with his fourth goal of the day with 1:08 to play to give the Lions a 9-2 advantage.
The Cobras kicked off the third quarter with a goal to make it 9-3, but the Lions responded at the 7:21 mark with a goal by Laturell assisted by Weiss making it 10-3, Lions. The Cobras scored the next four to close out the quarter trialing 10-7.
In the fourth quarter, the Cobras struck first to cut the Lions lead to 10-8. The Lions closed out the quarter strong with two goals in the last three minutes of play.
Luke Hildebrandt scored with 2:56 to play, assisted by Laturell to make it 11-8, then Laturell scored with 1:22 to go to make the final score, 12-8 Lions.
Jared Weiss led the Lions with 4 goals on the afternoon, with
Luke Hildebrandt and
Ryland Laturell contributing three a piece.
Griffin Gibson-Thomas had 2 assists on the day, with Weiss, Fodchuk and
Luke Hildebrandt adding 1 a piece.
Grady Magruder had a good day in the net, with 16 saves.
The Lions will be back in action on Wednesday as they host Tusculum at Stephens Field at 3PM.
