Lions Fall to Anderson 12-9

Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Baseball team hosted Anderson University this afternoon in regional play. The Lions got out to an early 8-1 lead, but the Trojans answered with a 6-run 7th inning to earn a 12-9 victory. With the loss, the Lions fall to 7-5 on the season.
The Trojans got on the board first with one run on 2 errors in the top of the 1st inning. The Lions responded well in the bottom half of the inning with 3 runs on 4 hits. Jesus Cruz started things off with a single to shortstop. Brock Wollin singled to right field to advance Cruz to third base, and Hayden Beall singled to center to score a run to tie things at 1-1. Cameron Hancock kept things going with a single to right field to score Wollin and give the Lions a 2-1 lead. Nick Madrigal grounded out to score Beall, giving the Lions a 3-1 lead. 
After a scoreless 2nd inning for the Trojans, the Lions got back to work. Ryan Muniz started things with a single and Jesus Cruz kept things going with a single to shortstop to advance Muniz to 2nd. The runners advanced by stealing a base, and Wollin laced a double to centerfield to send them home, making it 5-1, Lions. 
The Lions added to their lead in the bottom of the 3rd. Nick Madrigal started things off with a single to centerfield. Muniz kept his hit streak going with a double to left field to score a run and give the Lions a 6-1 lead. Muniz stole 3rd base and Cruz walked to put runners at 1st and 3rd. Cruz stole 2nd base and Wollin hit a 2-RBI single to left field to score Cruz and Muniz and give the Lions an 8-1 lead. 
After a few scoreless innings, the Trojans scored a run on 1 hit in the top of the 6th to make it 8-2, Lions. 
The Trojans kept things going in the top of the 7th with 6 runs on 3 hits and an error to make it 8-8. The Lions responded well in the bottom half of the inning. Muniz doubled to left field the start their at bat. Cruz grounded out to advance Muniz to third and Wollin singled to the pitcher to score him, making it 9-8, Lions. 
The Trojans tied things back up at 9-9 in the top of the 8th with one run on 2 hits. 
In the top of the 9th, Anderson took the lead for good with 3 runs on 3 hits to earn the 12-9 victory. 
At the plate, Brock Wollin went 4-6 with 5 RBI's while Ryan Muniz went 3-5 with 3 runs scored and 2 doubles. On the mound, Noah Olson got the start, going 2.2 innings. He gave up one run and one hit and struck out a batter. Will Sherman relieved him to pitch 2.1 innings. He gave up one hit, walked two batters and struck out one. Bubba Luke came in next, throwing 1.0 inning and giving up one run on one hit. He walked one batter and struck out another. Kody Collins came in next to face 2 batters, giving up 2 runs on 2 walks. JJ Neal faced 5 batters and gave up 4 runs (3 earned) on 3 hits.  Zach Evans faced 4 batters, walking one. Hunter Maddox threw 1.2 innings, giving up 4 earned runs on 5 hits. Noah Cantleberry closed out the game for the Lions, facing the final three batters, walking one.
The Lions will be back in action on Friday at 3PM as they host Belmont Abbey in a weekend conference series.
