Newberry, SC – The Emmanuel Softball team traveled to Newberry, SC today to take on the Newberry College Wolves in a doubleheader. The two teams kept it close in game one, with the Wolves holding on to win, 4-3. The Lions responded well with in game two, with
Carly Forrester dealing on the mound for seven strikeouts and
Jaryn Gibson going yard to give the Lions a 5-2 win over the Wolves. With the series, the Lions improve to 2-9 on the season.
GAME ONE –
The Wolves jumped out to an early lead in game one, scoring a run on two hits in the 2
nd inning to take a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the 3
rd, the Lions responded well.
Ciara Passmore started the inning off with a single to right center.
Cassidy Jenkins grounded out to advance the runner.
Ellee Varner reached on a fielder's choice with Passmore advancing to third on an error. Passmore scored an unearned run on a pop fly to make it 1-1.
Gabby Buffington kept the inning going with a single to score Varner, making it 2-1, Lions. The Wolves retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs on 3 hits to make it 3-2, Newberry.
The Wolves tacked on another run to their lead in the bottom of the 4
th scoring one run on one hit to make it 4-2.
In the top of the 7
th the Lions answered back. Passmore tripled to start the inning and
Cassidy Jenkins singled to shortstop to score her to make the final score, 4-3 Wolves.
At the plate,
Ciara Passmore went 2-3 with 2 runs scored while
Kelsey Lester went 2-3.
On the mound,
Cassidy Jenkins went 6.0 innings and gave up 4 runs on 9 hits. She walked 4 batters.

GAME TWO –
The Wolves struck first in game two with a run on one hit in the bottom of the 2
nd.
The score stayed that way until the bottom of the 5
th when the Wolves added a run to their lead with a run on two hits to make it 2-0.
In the top of the 6
th, the Lions responded with a run on two hits.
Abby Rocco started things off with a single.
Gabby Buffington walked to put runners on first and second.
Jaryn Gibson followed that up with a single to load the bases and
Cassidy Jenkins reached first on an error to score Rocco to make it 2-1, Wolves.
In the top of the 7
th, the Lions got back to work.
Eliana Cooper started the inning off with a single. Varner and Rocco both singled to put runners on 1
st and 2
nd. Buffington walked to load the bases for Gibson and she took full advantage with a grand-slam to give the Lions the 5-2 win!
At the plate,
Abby Rocco and
Jaryn Gibson both went 3-3. Rocco scored 2 runs and Gibson ended the game with 4 RBI's.
On the mound,
Carly Forrester went 7.0 innings giving up 2 runs on 7 hits. She walked one batter and struck out seven.
The Lions will be back in action on Saturday with a doubleheader at USC Aiken.
