Lions Beat Shorter 96-70!

ROME, GA – The Emmanuel Men's Basketball team traveled to Rome, GA tonight to take on the Shorter University Hawks in conference action. After a first half that saw several ties and lead changes, the Lions exploded for 56 points in the 2nd half to take home a convincing 96-70 victory. With the win, the Lions improve to 18-8 on the season, 16-2 in conference action.

The two teams traded points and the lead early, with Tavarus Webb and Kendall Latney making some key plays early for the Lions. A three-pointer by Issac Jones put the Lions up 16-12 with 12:39 to play in the first, but the Hawks responded well to tie things up. In the half, the Lions shot 47% from the field, connecting on 6-17 from beyond the arc. The Lions would lead by as much as five in the half, taking a three-point lead, 40-37 into the half.

The Lions started the second half strong, with buckets by Latney and Webb pushing the Lions lead to 11, 48-37. A three-pointer by Chris Dees with 13:32 to play put the Lions up by 14, 55-41. The Lions would push their lead to 20 on made free throws by John Kenoye, 66-46. The Lions were 19-31 from the field in the half (61%) and connected on 5-10 from three-point range. The Lions pushed their lead up to 30 points on a three-pointer by Jackson Pruitt with 6:02 to play, 84-54. The Hawks would go on a scoring run late, but the Lions would take home a convincing win, 96-70. 

Three Lions scored in double figures on the night with Tavarus Webb leading the way with 30 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds. Kendall Latney contributed 18 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals, while Chris Dees went for 13, connecting on 4-9 from three. Elisee Ehuie and John Kenoye led the way with 9 rebounds apiece.
