Box Score BRISTOL, TN – The Emmanuel Men's Volleyball team traveled to Bristol, TN to take on King University in a conference matchup. The Tornado took the first two sets in a hard-fought battle, 25-17, 25-23. The Lions responded well to take set three, 25-23 but the Tornado would close out the game with a 25-21 win in set four to take the 3-1 win. With the loss, the Lions fall to 1-12 on the season, 0-3 in conference action.
The two teams traded points and the lead early in set one, with the Tornado pulling away midway through the set, 15-12. King continued to push their lead with a 5-1 run to go up 18-13. The Lions responded well with kills by
Thijs Van der Wal and
Carlos Guerrero to make it 23-17, but the Tornado closed out the set strong to earn a 25-17 win.
Set two started out similarly, with both teams making key plays early. The Lions went up 14-12 midway through the set on a kill by
Elek Cumming and a service ace by Guerrero, but the Tornado responded to tie things at 14. The two teams traded points and the lead until late, with the Tornado scoring the final two points to earn a 25-23 set two win.
In set three, the Lions responded well, jumping out to a 5-0 lead on kills by Cumming, Guerrero and
Greg Bodus. Kills by
Aidan Feeney pushed the Lions lead to 11-6 midway through the set. The Tornado answered back to tie things up at 18, taking a 20-19 lead late. The two teams traded plays, with the Feeney getting back-to-back kills when it counted to help the Lions earn the 25-23 set three win.
The Lions jumped out to an early 7-2 lead in set four on kills by Cumming, Guerrero and
Andrew Michael. The Tornado responded well to tie things at 9. There were several ties and lead changes in the set, with each team having an answer. The Tornado went on a 4-0 run midway through the set to take a 16-13 lead, but the Lions responded with kills by Van der Wal and Feeney to get within a point of the lead, 19-18. The Tornado pulled away with a 4-0 run to go up 24-18, but the Lions responded with a 3-0 run of their own, forcing three consecutive attack errors to make it 24-21. The Tornado earned the last point to take the set four win, 25-21 and take the game, 3-1.
Overall, the Lions had 49 kills, 46 assists 1 ace, 7 blocks and 50 digs.
Aidan Feeney led the way with 16 kills, while
Carlos Guerrero added 12.
Oliwer Wrobel led the team in assists with 37, while Guerrero added an ace on the night. Guerrero, Feeney, and
Andrew Michael each had 2.0 blocks on the night, with
Ed-Verian Basson adding 1. Wrobel led the team in digs with 15, while Feeney grabbed 9.
