Florence, SC – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team traveled to Florence, SC to take on Francis Marion in Conference Carolinas action. The Patriots got off to a fast start, outscoring the Lions 21-8 in the first quarter. The home team controlled the pace of the game the rest of the way to earn an 82-48 victory. With the loss, the Lions fall to 12-14 on the season, 11-8 in conference action.
The Patriots jumped out to a 10-2 lead early. A three pointer by
Abby Crawford and made free throws by
Naomi Roberts cut the lead to 12-6, but the Patriots would outscore the Lions 9-2 to end the quarter with a 21-8 lead. The Lions were 2-14 from the field in the first but connected on 3-4 from the foul line.
In the second quarter, the Lions began clicking offensively. Baskets by Crawford, Roberts and
Makenzie Caldwell cut the Patriots lead to nine with 5:57 to go before the break, 23-14. Francis Marion would respond well to push their lead back up to double digits. In the quarter, the Lions were 6-13 from the field (46%) and trailed the Patriots by 15, 35-20 at the half.
After the break, the two teams traded baskets with Roberts and Crawford getting some good looks. Although the Lions were making shots, the Patriots had an answer and pushed their lead to 20 with 2:50 to play in the 3
rd. In the quarter, the Lions were 7-16 from the field (44%) and trailed 62-36 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Patriots continued to find open looks increasing their lead to 30 early in the quarter. The Lions were productive in the quarter at the foul line where they were 6-7 (86%). The Patriots earned an 82-48 victory.
Naomi Roberts and
Abby Crawford both had 12 points for the Lions, with
Ade'Jah James contributing 7.
Maddie Futch had 7 rebounds on the afternoon, with
Addie Penick and Crawford leading the way with 2 assists a piece.
The Lions will be back in action on Monday night as they travel to Belmont, NC to take on Belmont Abbey in their final regular season game of the season.
