Wilson, NC – The Emmanuel Men's Lacrosse team traveled to Wilson, NC to take on the Barton Bulldogs in conference action. The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead, taking a 12-7 lead into the half. Barton controlled the pace of the game the rest of the way to earn a 21-11 victory. With the loss, the Lions move to 6-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
The Bulldogs got the scoring started, finding the net twice to go up 2-0 early in the first.
Jared Weiss got the Lions on the board with a goal at 11:13 assisted by
Ryland Laturell to make it 2-1, Barton. The Bulldogs answered to take a 3-1 lead, but
Griffin Gibson-Thomas responded with a goal, assisted by
Joshua Fodchuk to make it 3-2. The Bulldogs closed out the quarter on a 3-0 scoring run to take a 6-2 lead into the second quarter.
Barton kept the pressure on offensively, scoring the first 3 goals of the 2
nd quarter to go up 9-2.
Tanner Park found the net for the Lions with 11:07 to play in the half, assisted by Weiss to cut the lead to 9-3. The Bulldogs answered to make it 10-3, but the Lions scored the next two, with goals by Fodchuk and Gibson-Thomas, assisted by Laturell to cut the lead to 10-5. Barton scored the next two to push their lead to 12-5, but the Lions ended the half strong with two goals in the final two minutes of play, scored by Laturell and
Parker Sola to make it 12-7 at the break.
The Bulldogs struck first in the 3
rd quarter to go up 13-7, but
Luke Hildebrandt answered to make it 13-8 with 7:50 to play in the quarter, assisted by Gibson-Thomas. Barton scored the next two to make it 15-8, but Laturell grabbed a goal with 4:58 left in the 3
rd to cut the lead to 15-9. After a late goal by the Bulldogs, Barton led 16-9 after three.
Barton started the fourth quarter on a 3-0 run to go up 19-9. Laturell scored with 9:05 to play, assisted by Fodchuk to make it 19-10. After a goal by the Bulldogs to make it 20-10, a goal by
Tanner Park with 2:45 to play, assisted by Gibson-Thomas cut the Bulldog lead to 20-11. The Bulldogs scored the final goal to earn a 21-11 win.
Laturell led the way for the Lions with 3 goals on the day, while
Griffin Gibson-Thomas and
Tanner Park added 2 a piece. Gibson-Thomas and Laturell each had 2 assists on the day.
The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday as they host Lees McRae in conference action.
