CENTRAL, SC – The Emmanuel Softball team traveled to Central, SC this afternoon to take on the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan in a two-game series. The Warriors took game one, 6-1 before outhitting the Lions 12-3 to earn a 5-0 victory in the second game. With the losses, the Lions fall to 12-17 on the season, 7-5 in conference action.
GAME ONE
The Warriors opened up the scoring in the bottom of the 1
st , scoring 2 runs on 2 hits to go up 2-0.
The Warriors added 2 runs on 3 hits in the bottom of the 4
th to go up 4-0.
SWU scored a run on 2 hits in the bottom of the 5
th to make it 5-0.
In the bottom of the 6
th, the Warriors made it 6-0 on 2 hits.
The Lions rallied in the top of the 7
th with four hits.
Kelsey Lester hit a two-out double to start things off.
Arlie Gooden singled to left center to advance Lester to 3
rd and
Ellee Varner singled through the left side to score Lester, making the final score 6-1.
At the plate,
Kelsey Lester was 2-3 with a run scored.
In the circle,
Cassidy Jenkins got the start, going 4.0 innings. She gave up 4 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits and struck out 2.
Reagan Garrett relieved her to pitch 3.0 innings. She gave up 2 runs on 4 hits and walked a batter.
GAME TWO
The Warriors jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1
st with a home run.
Another home run in the bottom of the 3
rd made the score 2-0, SWU.
The Lions threatened in the top of the 4
th, with a runner reaching on an error and a double by
Gabby Buffington, but a ground-out ended the inning with no runs scored. The Warriors scored 2 runs on 4 hits in the bottom of the 4
th to make it 4-0.
SWU added a run on 2 hits in the bottom of the 6
th to make it 5-0.
The Lions threatened in the top of the 7
th with two runners on base, but a double play ended the inning with SWU taking game two, 5-0.
At the plate,
Gabby Buffington went 2-3 with a double.
In the circle,
Carly Forrester got the nod. She threw 5.1 innings giving up 5 runs on 12 hits. She walked 2 batters and struck out 2.
Reagan Garrett closed out the game, facing 2 batters.
