SPARTANBURG, SC – The Emmanuel Women's Lacrosse team traveled to Spartanburg, SC to take on Converse University in conference action. The Lions took a 9-6 lead into the half, but a 7-goal 3
rd quarter put the Valkyries back into striking distance. The Lions closed out the game strong, scoring 2 of the final 3 goals to earn the 20-18 win. Sophomore,
Paige Murphy scored a career high 10 goals (on her birthday!) With the win, the Lions improve to 6-5 on the season, 2-2 in conference action.
Paige Murphy got the Lions on the board early in the first, assisted by
Meghan Jennings to give the Lions at 1-0 lead. The Valkyries answered to take a 2-1 lead, but Murphy scored the next two goals, assisted by
Kristie Fisher and
Taylor Schubert to make it 3-2, Lions. Schubert was next to find the net, assisted by Jennings to give the Lions a 4-2 lead, but the Valkyries answered to cut the Lions lead to 4-3. Schubert made it 5-3 with 2:22 to play in the quarter, assisted by
Mikaela Austin but the Valkyries grabbed a goal with seconds on the clock to make it 5-4 heading to the 2
nd.
The Valkyries struck first in the 2
nd quarter to tie the game at 5-5, but Fisher grabbed a goal to make it 6-5, Lions. Murphy scored her 4
th with 5:29 in the 2
nd quarter to give Emmanuel a 7-5 lead, and Jennings was quick to add onto the Lions lead with a goal, assisted by Schubert to make it 8-5. Murphy made it 9-5 with 3:56 to play, assisted by Fisher. Converse cut the Lions lead to 9-6 to close out the 2
nd quarter.
The Valkyries opened up the 3
rd with a goal to make it 9-7, Lions, but Fisher was quick to respond with a goal to give the Lions a 10-7 advantage. The Valkyries made it 10-8 with 10:42 to play in the 3
rd but the Lions answered with a 2-0 run, with goals from Murphy and Jennings to make it 12-8. The Valkyries scored to cut the lead to 12-9, but
Demi Czynski scored her first goal of the day to push the lead to 13-9. The Valkyries scored the next three to make it 13-12 to end the quarter.
Czynski scored her 2
nd goal, assisted by Paeyton Hoffman to start the fourth quarter with the Lions leading 14-12. Converse scored the next three to take a 15-14 lead, but the Lions responded well with a goal by Murphy, assisted by Fisher to make it 15 all. Murphy scored her 8
th of the afternoon to make it 16-15, Lions, but the Valkyries quickly tied it up. The Lions scored the next two to go up 18-16 with goals by Jennings and Fisher. The Valkyries made it 18-17 with less than five minutes to play, but the Lions weren't done. Murphy scored the next two to bring her total to a career high, 10 goals giving the Lions a 20-17 lead. The Valkyries scored once more to close out the game with the Lions earning a 20-18 victory.
Paige Murphy led the Lions with a career high 10 goals, with
Meghan Jennings and
