Franklin Springs, Ga – The Emmanuel Women's Lacrosse team hosted Young Harris College tonight in conference play. The Mountain Lions jumped out ahead early, leading 9-6 at the half. The Lions took the lead late, 13-12 but Young Harris tied things with under two minutes to play in regulation. Young Harris carried the momentum into overtime, scoring to earn a 14-13 win. With the loss, the Lions fall to 6-6 on the season, 2-3 in conference action.
The Mountain Lions got on the board first to take a 1-0 lead. Paetyn Hoffman responded with a goal, assisted by
Paige Murphy to tie things at 1. Young Harris found the net to go up 2-1, but
Demi Czynski responded to make it 2-2 with 4:03 to play in the 1
st. The Mountain Lions closed out the quarter on a 2-0 run to take a 4-2 lead into the 2
nd quarter.
The Mountain Lions continued their run in the 2
nd quarter, scoring the first 3 goals to push their lead to 7-2. Kristi Fisher answered with a score to make it 7-3, Mountain Lions. Fisher scored her 2
nd goal of the night with 6:30 left in the quarter, assisted by
Taylor Schubert to make it 7-4, Young Harris.
Paige Murphy was next to find the net for her first goal of the night, assisted by Czynski, cutting the Young Harris lead to 7-5. Young Harris scored the next two to make it 9-5, but Schubert scored with 46 seconds to play in the half to make it 9-6.
The 3
rd quarter kicked off with a goal by Fisher to cut the Mountain Lion lead to 9-7. The Mountain Lions responded with a goal to go back up by 3, 10-7 but the Lions answered to score the next two goals. Murphy scored her 2
nd of the night with 13:16 left in the quarter to make it 10-8 then a goal by
Meghan Jennings made it 10-9. Young Harris scored the next two to make it 12-9, but Murphy scored her 3
rd of the night, assisted by Jennings to make it 12-10 to end the quarter.
The Lions started the 4
th quarter on a run. Jennings scored to cut the Mountain Lions lead to 12-11 and Fisher scored her 4
th of the night, assisted by Schubert to tie the game at 12-12. A goal by Czynski with 9:38 left to play would give the Lions their first lead of the night, but Young Harris scored with under two minutes to play to tie the game to end regulation tied at 13-13.
In overtime, the Mountain Lions scored with 50 seconds to play to earn a 14-13 victory.
Kristie Fisher led the Lions with 4 goals on the night, while
Paige Murphy added 3.
Taylor Schubert led the team in assists with 2, while
Emily Dawson had 14 saves on the night.
Next up, the Lions will travel to Mount Olive, NC to play the University of Mount Olive Trojans on Saturday at noon.
