Box Score Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Men's Volleyball team hosted #14 Lewis University tonight in non-conference action. The Lions got off to a hot start, taking set one 25-23. The Flyers responded well taking the next two sets, 25-15, 25-17.
With the loss, the Lions fall to 1-18 on the season.
In the first set, the Lions jumped out to a 3-1 lead on a kill by
Carlos Guerrero and a service ace by
Thijs Van der Wal. The Flyers quickly responded to get within a point at 6-5, but the Lions pushed their lead on a 6-0 run including kills by
Lucas Nieves,
Aidan Feeney, Guerrero, and Van der Wal to push the Lions lead to 13-6. The Flyers answered back midway through the set to cut the Lions lead to 16-13, but another kill by Guerrero pushed the lead back to four, 20-16. The Flyers tied things at 23-23 but the Lions scored the final two points of the set on kills by
Andrew Michael and Van der Wal to take the set 25-23.
The second set saw the Flyers take an early 6-2 lead. Lewis continued on a 3-1 run to make it 9-3. A kill by Michael cut the Flyers lead to 11-6, but the Flyers extended their lead to 16-9 midway through the set. The Flyers closed out the set strong to take it 25-15.
The two teams traded points and the lead to start the third set. Kills by Feeney and Michael gave the Lions a 6-4 lead, but the Flyers quickly responded to tie the set at 7 all. A 3-0 run for the Flyers helped Lewis pull away midway through the set, 13-9 and the visiting team continued to apply pressure, extending their lead to 19-11. An ace by Michael and kill by Nieves helped the Lions keep things close but the Flyers closed the set out to take it, 25-17.
The Flyers carried their momentum into the 4
th set. Lewis jumped out to a 5-2 lead, expanding their lead to 12-4 midway through the set. The Flyers pushed their lead to 20-10 late in the set and closed it out on a 5-1 run to take the final set 25-11 and the game 3-1.
Overall, the Lions had 26 kills, 21 assists, 4 aces, 2 blocks and 21 digs.
Lucas Nieves and
Carlos Guerrero led the Lions with 8 kills apiece.
Oliwer Wrobel had 19 assists and
Andrew Michael led the way with 2 aces. Guerrero had 1.5 blocks on the night to lead the team, with Nieves contributing 5 digs.
