Young Harris, GA – The Emmanuel Softball team traveled to Young Harris, GA for their first conference series of the season against the Young Harris Mountain Lions. The Lions took game one in grand fashion, 4-1 but the Mountain Lions responded well to win game two, 5-4. With the split, the Lions now sit at 6-13 on the season.
GAME ONE
It was a pitcher's duel until the bottom of the 4
th when the Mountain Lions got on the board with a run on one hit to make it 1-0, Young Harris.
The Lions responded well in the top of the 5
th.
Kelsey Lester reached on an error and
Aggie Bennett reached on a fielder's choice, with Lester getting thrown out at 2
nd.
Arlie Gooden kept things going with a single to 3
rdbase to move Bennett to 2
nd. A ground out bunt moved runners into scoring position for
Abby Rocco, who was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Jaryn Gibson took full advantage of the run-scoring opportunity with a GRAND SLAM To left field to clear the bases and give the Lions a 4-1 lead which would be the final score.
At the plate,
Jaryn Gibson led the way going 1-3 with 4 RBI's and a run scored.
On the mound,
Cassidy Jenkins earned the win to move to 3-8 on the season. She gave up 1 run on 3 hits and struck out 4 batters, walking 2.
GAME TWO
The Mountain Lions jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in game two scoring a run on 2 hits in the bottom of the first.
Young Harris added onto their lead in the bottom of the 3
rd, scoring 2 runs on 3 hits to make it 3-0.
In the bottom of the 4
th, the home team Mountain Lions tacked on a run on a hit and 2 errors to go up 4-0.
The Lions began to rally back in the top of the 5
th. Ciarra Passmore started things off with a triple down the right field line, then
Aggie Bennett laced a double to left center to score her, cutting the Young Harris lead to 4-1.
In the top of the 7
th, the Lions got back to work.
Gabby Buffington walked to start the inning, then Passmore singled to left to advance Buffington to 2
nd.
Aggie Bennett took full advantage of the situation with a 3-run blast to left field to tie things up 4-4. The Mountain Lions responded with a run on 3 hits in the bottom half of the inning to take the win, 5-4.
At the plate, Ciarra Passmore was 2-2 with 2 runs scored and
Aggie Bennett was 2-3 with 4 RBI's and a run scored.
Carly Forrester got the start in the circle for the Lions and threw 4.0 innings giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits.
Reagan Garrett relieved her to pitch the final 2.0 innings. She gave up a run on 3 hits.
Next up, the Lions will travel to Rome, GA to face Shorter University in a conference series on Wednesday, March 12. First pitch of game one will be at 3PM with game two following at 5PM.
