Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Lacrosse team hosted the Barton College Bulldogs today in conference action. The Lions got off to an early lead, taking a 6-4 lead into the half but Barton would respond with 6 goals in the 3rd quarter to take the lead. The Lions would tie things up at 11-11 to end regulation and force OT. With a mere 17 seconds left to play in OT, Barton would score the winning goal to take the game 12-11. With the loss, the Lions fall to 3-3 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.
Paige Murphy got the day started for the Lions, scoring the first two goals. The first goal was at the 13:30 mark and the second was scored with 12:06 left in the first, assisted by
Kristie Fisher to give the Lions a 2-0 lead. Barton would respond with two goals to tie things at 2-2, but
Taylor Schubert would find the net with 5:19 to go, assisted by Fisher to give the Lions a 3-2 lead. Fisher would score her first goal of the day with 3:23 to play in the quarter, assisted by
Demi Czynski to make it 4-2, Lions. Czynski made it 5-2 with a goal with 1:15 to play in the first, assisted by
Meghan Jennings.
Barton would score the first two goals in the second quarter to cut the Lions lead to 5-4. With 5:50 to play in the half, Fisher scored her second of the day, assisted by
Mikaela Austin to make it 6-4, Lions.
The Bulldogs would net the first three goals in the third quarter to take their first lead to the game, 7-6. The Lions answered back with a goal by Murphy with 10:00 to play in the third to tie the game at 7 all. Fisher found the net again to give the Lions an 8-7 lead with 9:30 to play in the quarter, assisted by Czynski. The Bulldogs scored the next three to go up 10-8.
The Lions started the fourth with a goal by Murphy, assisted by Austin to cut the Bulldog lead to 10-9 with 13:10 to play. The Bulldogs responded with a goal to make it 11-9, but Czynski found the net with 55 seconds in regulation to make it 11-10. With 6 seconds to play, Schubert scored, assisted by Fisher to tie things at 11-11 to end regulation.
Barton scored with 17 seconds remaining in the overtime period to take home a 12-11 victory.
Paige Murphy led all scorers with 4 goals, while
Kristie Fisher contributed 3 goals and 3 assists.
Demi Czynski and
Taylor Schubert each ended the day with 2 goals. In goal,
Emily Dawson had 9 saves.
The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday at 1PM when they host Lake Erie College at Stephens Field.
