Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Softball team hosted the Georgia College & State University Bobcats in a doubleheader this afternoon. The Lions jumped on the board early and often in game one, earning a 10-2 victory in 6 innings. Game two was a pitcher's duel, with the Lions coming away with a hard-fought 2-1 victory. With the sweep, the Lions improve to 16-19 on the season.
GAME ONE
Kelsey Lester started things off for the Lions with a solo homer in the bottom of the 3
rd inning to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
Grace Ausborn kept it going with a single down the left field line and
Ellee Varner singled to left to put runners on 1
st and 2
nd.
Jaryn Gibson cleared the bases with a single to left field to make it 3-0, Lions.
Gabby Buffington made it 4-0 with a double down the left field line, and
Ciara Passmore closed out the inning with a single to center to score Buffington to make it 5-0, Lions.
The Lions got back to work in the bottom of the 4
th. Ausborn kept her hit streak going with a single to short stop and Varner laced a double to left center to advance Ausborn to 3
rd. Gibson singled to right field to score two runs, giving the Lions a 7-0 lead.
The Bobcats responded by scoring 2 runs on 4 hits in the top of the 5
th.
In the bottom of the 6
th, the Lions bats got hot again. Ausborn hit her third single of the day to 1
st base. Varner was hit by a pitch to put runners on 1
st and 2
nd and Gibson doubled to send them home, giving the Lions a 9-2 lead. Buffington laced a single to center field to score Gibson, making the final score 10-2, Lions.
At the plate,
Grace Ausborn was 3-3 with 3 runs scored, while
Jaryn Gibson was 3-4 with 6 RBI's.
In the circle,
Cassidy Jenkins got the start. She threw 6.0 innings and gave up 2 runs on 8 hits to earn the win.
GAME TWO
The Lions got on the board first in the 2
nd inning on a solo homerun by
Reagan Garrett to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
Abby Rocco led off the 2
nd inning with a single to 2
nd baes.
Jaryn Gibson followed that up with a single to left center to advance Rocco to 2
nd.
Gabby Buffington kept the inning going with a single to the pitcher to load the bases and Garrett walked to score Rocco, making it 2-0, Lions.
The Bobcats would get on the board in the top of the 7
th, scoring a run on 3 hits to cut the Lions lead to 2-1, which would be the final score.
At the plate, five Lions tallied a hit, with
Reagan Garrett adding 2 RBI's and a run scored.
In the circle,
Carly Forrester got the nod. She threw a complete game, giving up a run on 7 hits, striking out 2 batters.
The Lions will travel to Mount Olive, NC to face the University of Mount Olive Trojans for a doubleheader on Friday with the first pitch at 2PM.
