Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Lions Fall to Erskine 3-0

Due West, SC – The Emmanuel Men's Volleyball team traveled to Due West, SC today to take on Erskine in conference play. The game was competitive from the start, with both teams making plays but the Flying Fleet would earn the 3-0 victory over the Lions, 25-23, 27-25, 25-18. With the loss, the Lions fall to 4-23 on the season, 2-12 in conference action. 

Erskine jumped out to an early 4-2 lead in the first set. The Lions would pull within 5-4, but the Fleet responded to pull ahead 11-6. The Lions would answer back with a 5-0 run, made up of kills by Aidan Feeney and Thijs Van der Wal to make it 11-11. The two teams traded points midway through the set until the Fleet pulled ahead 22-18. Kills by Bryan Povea and Van der Wal would cut Erskine's lead to one, 22-21 but the Flying Fleet would answer to go up 24-21. The Lions scored the next two points to make it 24-23, but Erskine scored the final point to take the set, 25-23. 

Set two saw the Flying Fleet jump out to a 3-1 lead. A service and attack error by the Flying Fleet helped the Lions tie things up at 3, but Erskine would jump back out ahead 12-7.  The Lions answered with a 4-0 run made up of kills by Feeney and Lucas Nieves to make it 12-11, Flying Fleet. Another 3-0 run for the Lions would give Emmanuel the 16-15 lead. A 3-0 run for the Fleet would make it 22-19 late in the set, but the Lions responded well with kills by Feeney and Nieves to tie the set at 23. A kill by Feeney gave the Lions a 24-23 lead and an attack error by the Fleet made it 25-24, Emmanuel, The Fleet however would score the final 3 points of the set to take it 27-25. 

In set three, Erskine jumped out to a 5-1 lead. The Lions responded with kills by Feeney and Van der Wal to make it 5-4, Fleet. A 5-1 run by the Fleet would make it 12-7, Erskine. Late in the set, the Lions trailed Erskine 20-10 but would rally. A 6-2 scoring run for the Lions made up to kills by Carlos Guerrero, Aedan Venagas and Povea would make it 22-16 but the Fleet would close out the set well to earn the 25-18 win and take the game 3-0. 

Overall, the Lions had 37 kills, 36 digs, 34 assists, 2 aces and 2 blocks. 

Aidan Feeney led the way with 10 kills, with Lucas Nieves adding 9 and Bryan Povea contributing 7. Feeney and Nieves added an ace a piece, while Povea led the team in blocks with 2. Oliwer Wrobel had 30 assists on the afternoon, while Josh Staehler had 11 digs.
