Lions Earn Series Sweep Against SWU!

Central, SC – The Emmanuel Baseball team traveled to Central, SC this weekend to face Southern Wesleyan University in their final conference series of the regular season. The Lions took game one in exciting fashion, 11-7. The Lions bats were on fire Saturday several players collecting multiple hits on the day. The Lions took game two 7-3 and finished out the series with a 23-3 victory over the Warriors. With the sweep, the Lions improve to 24-22 on the season, 14-14 in conference play. 
 
GAME ONE – 
The Lions jumped out ahead early in the 1st inning. Jesus Cruz was hit by a pitch to start things off and Landon Mokris kept things going with a single to left. Hayden Beall singled to centerfield to score Cruz, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead. Andrew Ferguson walked to load the bases and Dee Oliver reached on an error to score Mokris, making it 2-0, Lions. Dobbs Bowden kept the at-bat going with a single to score Beall, pushing the Lions lead to 3-0. The Warriors responded with a run on 3 hits in the bottom of the 1st to make it 3-1, Lions. 

In the top of the 2nd, Cruz was hit by a pitch to start off the inning and Brock Wollin walked to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Beall was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Nick Madrigal singled to centerfield to score Cruz, giving the Lions a 4-1 lead. The Warriors threatened in the bottom half of the inning with 3 hits, but no runs scored.
In the bottom of the 4th the Warriors scored a run on a hit to cut into the Lions lead, 4-2. 

In the top of the 6th, the Lions got back to work. Cruz and Mokris walked to start off the inning and Beall singled to centerfield to score Cruz, making it 5-2, Lions. Madrigal followed that up with a double to center to score two runs, giving the Lions a 7-2 lead. Ferguson kept things going with a single to short, advancing Madrigal to third. Ferguson stole 2nd base and Madrigal scored on the throw to put the Lions up 8-2. In the bottom of the 6th, the Warriors scored 3 runs on 3 hits to make it 8-5, Lions. 

The Warriors added a run on 2 hits in the bottom of the 7th to make it 8-6, Lions. 

The Lions responded in the top of the 8th. Brock Wollin singled to start the inning and Mokris laced a triple to centerfield to score him, making it 9-6 Lions. Madrigal continued the at-bat with a 2-run homerun to left center to put the Lions up 11-6. The Warriors scored a run on a hit in the bottom of the 8th to make it 11-7 which would be the final score.

At the plate, Landon Mokris was 2-3 with an RBI and 3 runs scored. Nick Madrigal was 3-5 with 5 RBI's and 2 runs scored.

On the mound, Noah Cantleberry got the start. He went 5.1 innings and gave up 4 runs on 11 hits. He struck out 3 batters and walked 1. Hunter Parks relieved him to pitch 3.2 innings, giving up 3 runs on 4 hits. He struck out 3 batters.   

GAME TWO
The Lions jumped out to an early lead in game two. 

Hayden Beall started off the 2nd inning with a double to left field and Nick Madrigal followed that up with a single through the left side to advance Beall to 3rd. Andrew Ferguson walked to load the bases and Dee Oliver reached on a fielder's choice which put Ferguson out on 2nd but scored Beall to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. Ryan Muniz singled to centerfield to score Madrigal, making it 2-0 Lions. After Jesus Cruz was hit by a pitch, Brock Wollin singled to center to score two runs, making it 4-0 Lions. Landon Mokris kept things going with a single to left field to advance Wollin to 2nd and Beall walked to load the bases. Madrigal walked to score Wollin, giving the Lions a 6-0 lead. 

The score stayed this way until the bottom of the 4th, where the Warriors scored a run on a hit to make it 6-1, Lions. 

The Lions answered in the top of the 5th. Dee Oliver singled to start things off and Dobbs Bowden singled through the left field line to advance Oliver to 2nd. Muniz singled up the middle to load the bases and Cruz was hit by a pitch to score Oliver, giving the Lions a 7-1 lead. 

The Warriors answered with 2 runs on 2 hits and an error in the bottom of the 7th to make the final score 7-3, Lions. 

At the plate, four Lions collected 2 hits, with Brock Wollin adding 2 RBI's. 

On the mound, Hunter Pirkle got the start, going 6.0 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 5 hits and struck out 5 batters, walking 4. Zach Evans relieved him to pitch the final inning, sitting down the batters in order. 

GAME THREE
The Lions got on the board quickly in game 3. 

Jesus Cruz walked to start off the first inning. Landon Mokris singled to left field to advance Cruz to 3rd and Hayden Beall singled through the left side to score Cruz, making it 1-0. Lions. In the bottom of the 1st, the Warriors answered to tie things at 1-1, scoring a run on 3 hits. 

The Lions responded in the top of the 3rd. Cruz walked to start things off, and Brock Wollin singled to left to advance Cruz to 3rd. Mokris and Beall walked to score Cruz, giving the Lions a 2-1 lead. Wollin scored on a SAC Fly and Mokris scored on a wild pitch to push the Lions lead to 4-1. Andrew Ferguson reached on an error to score Beall, making it 5-1 Lions. Dee Oliver singled up the middle to advance Ferguson to 2nd and Dobbs Bowden singled to load the bases. Ryan Muniz kept the inning going with a single to score 2 runs, making it 7-1 Lions. Cruz singled through the right side to score Bowden, giving the Lions an 8-1 lead. Wollin was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Mokris took full advantage with a double to center to score three runs, pushing the Lions lead to 11-1. Beall was hit by a pitch and Zachary Bergstrom walked to load the bases again. Ferguson walked to score Mokris, making it 12-1 Lions and Dee Oliver smashed a grand slam to left to clear the bases, giving the Lions a 16-1 lead. In the bottom of the 3rd, the Warriors scored 2 runs on 3 hits to make it 16-3, Lions. 

In the top of the 4th, the Lions bats stayed hot. Cruz was hit by a pitch and Wollin singled to center to start things off. Mokris singled to score Cruz, giving the Lions a 17-3 lead and Beall singled to center to load the bases. Bergstrom flied out to score Wollin, making it 18-3 Lions. 

In the top of the 6th, the Lions added to their lead. Bergstrom walked to start things off and Aiden Malish homered to bring him home, making the score 20-3 Lions. 

In the top of the 7th, the Lions kept things going. Bowden doubled to start off the at-bat and Jackson Harvill was hit by a pitch. Cruz walked to load the bases and Reece Kingeter reached on a fielder's choice to score Bowden, with Cruz getting thrown out at 2nd, putting the Lions up 21-3. Davis Roesler was hit by a pitch and Bergstrom walked to score Harvill, making it 22-3, Lions. Malish was hit by a pitch to score Kingeter, making the final score 23-3, Lions. 

At the plate, Landon Mokris went 3-4 with 4 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Dee Oliver and Aiden Malish homered, with Mokris and Dobbs Bowden adding a double. 

On the mound, Lucas Meehan earned the win. He threw 5.0 innings and gave up 3 runs on 9 hits striking out 6 batters. Will Sherman relieved him to pitch 3.0 innings. He gave up 4 hits and struck out 2 batters, walking 2. Gavin Richardson closed out the game, pitching an inning and striking out 2 batters.
