FLORENCE, SC – The Emmanuel Baseball team traveled to Florence, SC this weekend for a three-game series. The home team Patriots came out with a sweep, winning 12-3 in game one, 3-0 in game two, and 9-4 in game three. With the loss, the Lions fall to 17-22 overall, 10-14 in conference play.
GAME ONE
The Patriots jumped out ahead in the bottom of the 2
nd, scoring 4 runs on 5 hits and an error to take a 4-0 lead.
The Lions responded in the top of the 3
rd.
Dobbs Bowden doubled to left center to start things off.
Ryan Muniz singled to 2
nd base to move Bowden to 3
rd,
Jesus Cruz kept things going with a walk to load the bases.
Brock Wollin singled to third to score Bowden, making it 4-1, Patriots. A sacrifice fly scored Muniz to cut the Patriots lead in half, 4-2. Cruz stole home to make it 4-3, Patriots.
The Patriots scored 3 runs on 4 hits and an error in the bottom of the 4
th to make it 7-3.
In the bottom of the 6
th, Francis Marion scored 3 more runs on 3 hits to take a 10-3 lead.
The Patriots added 2 runs on 2 hits in the bottom of the 7
th to make it 12-3, which would be the final score.
At the plate,
Dobbs Bowden went 3-3 with a run scored.
On the mound,
Noah Cantleberry got the start, going 3.1 innings. He gave up 5 runs on 8 hits and struck out one batter. Zack Evans relieved him to pitch 3.1 innings. He gave up 6 runs on 6 hits and struck out 2 batters.
Barrett Barkley closed out the game for the Lions, pitching 1.1 innings. He gave up a run on a hit and struck out a batter.
GAME TWO
Game two was a pitcher's duel, with both teams having strong afternoons on the mound.
The Patriots got on the board first with 3 runs in the 2
nd inning on 4 hits to take a 3-0 lead.
The Lions would threaten with a hit in the top of the 3
rd, but the teams would remain scoreless throughout the remainder of the game and the Patriots would earn a 3-0 victory.
At the plate,
Ryan Muniz was 1-2.
On the mound,
Hunter Pirkle earned the start. He threw 6.0 innings and gave up 3 runs on 5 hits. He struck out 6 batters and walked 4.
GAME THREE
The Lions got on the board first in game three.
Brock Wollin walked to start things off.
Landon Mokris singled through the right side to advance Wollin to 3
rd. Wollin scored on a wild pitch to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
Hayden Beall singled to score Mokris, making it 2-0 Lions.
The Patriots got on the board in the bottom of the 2
nd, scoring 5 runs on 3 hits to make it 5-2.
The Patriots added a run in the bottom of the 3
rd to make it 6-2.
The Lions answered in the top of the 4
th.
Ryan Muniz was hit by a pitch. Cruz singled to move Muniz to 2
ndand
Brock Wollin doubled down the left field line to score two runs, making it 6-4, Patriots.
In the bottom of the 8
th, the Patriots added two runs on 4 hits to make it 8-4.
In the bottom of the 7
th, Francis Marion added a final run to earn a 9-4 victory.
At the plate,
Hayden Beall went 2-3.
On the mound,
Brayden Pooler got the start. He went 1.0 inning and gave up 2 runs on 2 walks.
Hunter Parks relieved him to pitch 4.0 innings. He gave up 5 runs on 6 hits and struck out 2 batters.
Lucas Meehan came in next to pitch an inning. He gave up 2 runs on 4 hits.
Will Sherman went next, throwing an inning and striking out a batter.
Hunter Maddox closed out the game, throwing an inning and giving up a hit.
Next up, the Lions will travel to Wilson, NC to face Barton College on Friday for a three-game series.
