Greenwood, SC – The Emmanuel Softball team traveled to Greenwood, SC today to take on the Lander University Bearcats in regional play. The home team, Bearcats earned the game one victory, 4-0 and earned a competitive 4-3 victory in game two. With the loss, the Lions fall to 17-24 on the season.
GAME ONE
The Bearcats jumped on the board in the bottom of the 2
nd scoring 2 runs on 4 hits to take a 2-0 lead.
The Bearcats added to their lead in the bottom of the 5
th with 2 runs on 2 hits to make it 4-0.
The Lions threatened in the 7
th with a runner on base, but the Bearcats closed out the inning to earn the 4-0 win.
At the plate,
Ellee Varner went 1-3.
In the circle,
Cassidy Jenkins got the start going 4.1 innings. She gave up 4 runs on 9 hits and walked a batter, striking out another.
Reagan Garrett relieved her to close out the game, giving up 3 hits.
GAME TWO
The Lions took the lead early in game two with a 2-out homerun by
Ciara Passmore in the top of the 2
nd to make it 1-0, Lions.
The Lions added to their lead in the top of the 6
th.
Jaryn Gibson got things started with a single to center field.
Arlie Gooden came in to pinch run for Gibson and advanced to 2
nd on a wild pitch.
Vic Epps followed that up with a 2-run homer to left center to give the Lions a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the 7
th, the Bearcats rallied back to score 3 runs on 3 hits to tie the game at 3-3 sending it to the 8
th inning.
In the bottom of the 8
th, the Bearcats scored a run on a hit and a error to earn the 4-3 victory.
At the plate,
Ciara Passmore went 3-3.
In the circle,
Carly Forrester got the nod. She went 6.0 innings and gave up 3 runs on 9 hits.
Reagan Garrett closed out the game, throwing 1.1 inning and giving up a run on 2 hits.
