Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Volleyball team hosted the Ferrum College Panthers for their second game of the day at the Shaw Athletic Center. The Lions rallied back well from the heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Anderson earlier in the day to sweep the Panthers, 25-21, 25-20, 25-21. With the win, the Lions improve to 5-4 overall, 3-0 in conference action.
The Panthers jumped out to an early 5-4 lead in the first set and led for most of the set, but a late run by the Lions turned the tables. Kills by
Ellie Jackson and
Cailin Pritchard tied the set at 18-18 and a kill by
Faith Kelly gave the Lions the lead for good, 22-21. The Lions scored the final three points to win the first set, 25-21.
The second set saw the Lions take an early 10-5 lead. The Panthers kept it close, cutting the Lions lead to 13-10 midway through the set but the Lions answered with a 5-0 run made up of a kill by Pritchard and a service ace by
Brooke Lee to make it 18-10, Lions. The Panthers kept it close, but a kill by
Brooke Lee gave the Lions the set, 25-20.
In the third set, the teams kept things close, with several ties and lead changes early. A 3-0 run by the Panthers gave Ferrum the 15-13 advantage, but Emmanuel roared back to retake the lead, 20-16 with kills by
Ellie Jackson and
Faith Kelly. The Lions would take the set, 25-21 and the game, 3-0.
Overall, the Lions had 37 kills, 13 aces, 4 blocks, 37 assists, and 36 digs.
Ellie Jackson led the way with 13 kills, with
Faith Kelly adding 9.
Sami Gambill led the team in aces with 4, with Jackson and
Asia Queen adding 3 a piece.
Cailin Pritchard,
Brooke Lee and Queen each had 2 blocks on the afternoon, while
Marusa Pesut contributed 29 assists. Queen ended the day with 9 digs to lead the team.
