Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Volleyball team hosted North Greenville University tonight in conference action. The Lions got off to a quick start, taking the first set, 25-15. Emmanuel carried that momentum into set 2, earning the 25-15 win, then completed the sweep in set 3, 25-19. With the win, the Lions improve to 6-4 on the season, 4-0 in conference play.
The Trailblazers jumped out to an early lead in set one, 3-1 but the Lions quickly took over the lead on a kill by
Brooke Lee to make it 4-3, Lions. North Greenville responded to take the lead again, forcing the Lions to call a timeout with North Greenville leading 8-5. The Trailblazers held onto the lead until a kill by Lee tied the set at 13-13. The Lions continued their rally with a 11-1 run, made up of kills by
Cailin Pritchard,
Ellie Jackson, and
Marusa Pesut to make it 24-15, Lions. An error by the Trailblazers closed out the set, giving the Lions a 25-15 set one win.
The second set was competitive at the start, with both teams making key plays. The Lions took a 5-4 lead early on a kill by
Brianna Bigelow and continued on a 5-0 run made up of kills by
Natalie Wilson and Pesut to make it 10-5, Lions. The Lions pushed their lead up to as much as 9 points late in the set, 19-10. Emmanuel closed out the set strong with kills by Wilson and
Brooke Lee to give the Lions the set, 25-15.
The third set saw the Lions take an early 8-2 lead on service aces by
Brooke Lee and kills by Pritchard, Lee and Jackson. The Lions pushed their lead to 16-8 but the Trailblazers rallied to cut the Lions lead to 20-16 late. Kills by Jackson and Wilson late pushed the Lions lead to 24-17 and an error by the Trailblazers gave the Lions a 25-19 set three win, and the 3-0 sweep.
Overall, the Lions had 41 kills, 39 assists, 6 aces, 2 blocks, 39 assists and 57 digs.
Cailin Pritchard and
Natalie Wilson led the way with 10 kills apiece, with
Marusa Pesut contributing 26 assists.
Asia Queen, Isabell Miller, and
Brooke Lee each had 2 aces on the night, with Pritchard adding 2 blocks.
Asia Queen led the team in digs with 14, with
Marusa Pesut adding 13.
