Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Men's Basketball team hosted Erskine College tonight in conference action. The Lions poured on the points early, with five players ending the night in double figures, led by
Sam Thacker (22 points) and Issac Jones (21 points) to earn the win 113-53! With the win, the Lions improve to 10-11 on the season, 7-6 in conference play.
The Lions jumped out of the gate early with
Sam Thacker scoring the first five points of the game. Emmanuel continued a 18-0 scoring run, with Thacker,
Isaac Jones and
Devin Story connecting from three-point range to give Emmanuel a 29-6 lead with 12:50 to play in the first half. Jones stayed hot from beyond the arc, making six three-balls in the first half.
Rett VanDeMark and
Massimo Moretti got into the scoring action, to give the Lions a 22-point lead, 54-32 at the break. In the first half, the Lions shot 59% from the field, connecting on 56% from three-point range.
The Lions carried their momentum into the second half with Thacker, Story and VanDeMark starting off strong pushing the Lions lead to 78-32 with 13:42 to play. VanDeMark scored a quick six points in the half, going a perfect 5-5 from the field in the game. The Lions shot 55% from the field, connecting on 38% from beyond the arc in the second half. Back-to-back three pointers by
Matthew McKenzie and
Micah Roebuck along with a layup from
Brady Peery put the Lions up over 100 points with 5:18 to play, 101-43. Peery, McKenzie and
Jamaal Leggett came on strong late in the game to push the Lions lead to as much as 67-points with 2:37 to play, 111-44. The Lions closed out the game strong to earn the win, 113-53.
Sam Thacker led all scorers with 22 points on the night, with
Isaac Jones close behind with 21 points. Thacker went 6-9 from three-point range, with Jones leading the team with 7 three pointers on the night.
Devin Story contributed 17 points and 8 rebounds on the night, with
Rett VanDeMark and
Massimo Moretti adding 11 points a piece. VanDeMark shot 100% from the field (5-5) and led the team in rebounds with 9.
