The Emmanuel University Women's Soccer team faced a challenging test this afternoon against Young Harris College, falling 6-0 in a match that demanded resilience and determination from the opening whistle to the final minutes. Despite the final score, the Lions continued to compete, working to create opportunities and defend against relentless attacks.
Emmanuel goalkeeper, Ana Ramirez-Cortés made an early impact, recording a save in the seventh minute to keep the game scoreless. The Lions worked to establish themselves offensively, earning a corner kick in the 11th minute and continuing to battle for possession. Ramirez-Cortés came through with another save as Emmanuel looked to keep Young Harris from gaining momentum.
Young Harris eventually broke through in the 27th minute, taking a 1-0 lead. The Lions continued to fight through the remainder of the first half, working to maintain that 1-0 score.
The second half brought a difficult stretch for Emmanuel, as Young Harris found the net four times between the 50th and 63rd minutes to extend their advantage. The Lions continued working defensively, fighting to prevent additional scoring opportunities.
Young Harris added one final goal in the 84th minute, bringing the score to 6-0. Emmanuel continued competing through the closing minutes, refusing to let the challenging result end its effort before the final whistle.
The Lions recorded four total shots, including one on goal, and earned four corner kicks throughout the contest. Defensively, Emmanuel faced 20 shots and recorded six saves, with Ramirez-Cortés helping the team withstand pressure throughout the match.
Although the result did not fall in Emmanuel's favor, the Lions continued to battle against a demanding opponent.
The experience offers an opportunity for the team to regroup, learn from the challenges of the match, and carry its determination into its next competition against Southern Wesleyan University on Wednesday at 4PM.Â
