Lions Bats Catch Fire in Home Opener Win over Georgia College 13-12!

Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Baseball team hosted Georgia College & State University this afternoon in regional action. The Bobcats took an early 4-0 lead, but the Lions bats got hot late, scoring 4 runs in the 9th inning to earn the 13-12 victory. With the win, the Lions improve to 2-5 on the season. 

The Bobcats got on the board first in the 2nd inning with 4 runs scored on a hit to take a 4-0 lead. 

The Lions answered in the bottom of the 3rd. Dee Oliver started things off with a single to third base and stoke 2nd. Aidan Feather followed that up with a single to right field to advance Oliver to 3rd and Reece Kingeter kept things going with a single to left to score Oliver, making it 4-1 Bobcats. After a groundout advanced the runners to 2nd and 3rd, a double from Davis Roesler scored both runs, cutting the Georgia College lead to 4-3.

In the top of the 4th, the Bobcats added two runs to their lead on a hit to take a 6-3 lead, but the Lions responded to tie things up in the bottom half of the inning. Alex Espinoza singled the left field to start off the at-bat, then Oliver lined a two-out double to left center to score him, making it 6-4, Bobcats. Oliver advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch and Feather singled to left field to score him, cutting the Georgia College lead to 6-5. A triple from Kingeter scored Feather to tie the game at 6-6 heading into the 5th

After a scoreless at bat for the Bobcats, the Lions got back to work. Roesler reached on an error by the shortstop, then a single from Espinoza sent Roesler to 3rd. Espinoza was caught stealing 2nd, and Roesler scored an unearned run to give the Lions the lead, 7-6. 

The Bobcats answered back in the top of the 6th scoring 2 runs on 3 hits to take an 8-6 lead. 

In the top of the 7th the Bobcats opened the game up, scoring 3 runs on 2 hits and 2 errors to make it 11-7.  The Lions answered in the bottom half of the inning. Chaz Encarnacion reached on an error by the shortstop and Jaden Madrid got on base by a hit by pitch to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Both runners advanced on a error by the 2nd baseman and Encarnacion scored to make the score 11-8, Bobcats. Oliver singled to shortstop to keep the inning going, scoring Madrid to cut Georgia College's lead to 11-9. 

After a scoreless 8th inning, the Bobcats tacked on another run to their lead on 2 hits to make it 12-9. The Lions roared back with Haidyn McGill starting things off with a walk. Madrid was hit by a pitch to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Oliver reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases and Feather singled to left field to score McGill to cut the Bobcat's lead to 12-10. Aiden Malish came in to pinch hit for Seth Ranta and delivered a double to left center to score three runs, giving the Lions the 13-12 victory. 

At the plate, Aidan Feather went 5-6 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs. Dee Oliver went 3-6 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBIs, with Reece Kingeter, Alex Espinoza, and Davis Roesler picking up 2 hits apiece. 

On the mound, Lucas Meehan got the start, going 1.1 inning and giving up 4 runs on 2 walks. Blake Altschuler relieved him to throw 3.2 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 3 hits, striking out 2 batters and walking 2. Miles Dodd came in next, throwing an inning and giving up 2 runs on 3 hits, walking a batter. Matthew Delarber relieved him to throw an inning, giving up 3 runs on 2 hits, walking a batter and striking out one. Zackary Easton came in next, throwing an inning and giving up a hit, striking out 2. Zach Evans relieved him, facing 4 batters and giving up a run on 2 hits. He struck out a batter and walked one. Luke Hopper earned the win for the Lions, striking out a batter. 

The Lions will be back in action on Friday at 1PM to start a home series against Barton College.
