Wilson, NC – The Emmanuel Men's Basketball team traveled to Wilson, NC today to face Barton College in conference action. The Lions jumped out to an early lead, but the Bulldogs answered to take a 34-32 lead into the half. The teams traded points and the lead early in the 2
nd half, but the Lions pulled ahead late to earn the 75-70 win. With the win, the Lions move to 15-12 on the season, 12-7 in conference play.
The Lions jumped out to an early 12-2 lead in the first half behind key buckets from
Ezra McKee,
Isaac Jones and
Rett VanDeMark. The Bulldogs responded with a 12-0 run to take the 14-12 lead with 12:29 to play in the 1
st. Barton pulled ahead by as many as 6 points in the first half, but the Lions answered with three-pointers from Jones and
Devin Story to cut the Barton lead to 30-27 with 5:13 to play. The Lions took a 31-30 lead on a three-point bucket by McKee with 3:42 to play but the Bulldogs answered to take a 34-32 lead into the break. In the first, the Lions shot 11-28 from the field, connecting on 6-15 from three-point range.
In the second half, the teams traded points and the lead early, with the Bulldogs pulling ahead with 14:34 to play to lead to six, 49-43. A layup by VanDeMark and three-pointers form Story and
Sam Thacker tied the game at 51-51. Both teams made impact plays the rest of the way, with the Lions pulling ahead with 4:34 to play on a layup by Story. Layups from Story and McKee made it 71-64, Lions with 2:28 to play, but the Bulldogs answered to pull within 3 points of the lead, 71-68 with 1:14 to play.
Devin Story closed out the game for the Lions on the foul line to win, 75-70.
Devin Story led all scorers with 27 points and 7 rebounds while
Ezra McKee added 24 points, 3 rebounds and an assist.
Sam Thacker and
Isaac Jones both had 4 assists on the night.
