MONTEVALLO, AL – The Emmanuel Women's Lacrosse team traveled to Montevallo, AL today to face the University of Montevallo in non-conference action. The Falcons took an early 3-1 lead, but the Lions answered to trail by a goal, 7-6 at half. The teams traded goals and the lead in the 2
nd half, with the Lions knotting the game at 14-14 with under 3 minutes to play in regulation to send the game to overtime. In the overtime period,
Taylor Schubert found the net for the Lions to give Emmanuel the win, 15-14! With the win, the Lions improve to 2-3 on the season.
Meghan Jennings got the Lions on the board early in the 1
st to give Emmanuel the 1-0 lead. Montevallo answered with a 3-0 scoring run to take a 3-1 lead, but
Taylor Schubert found the net with 4:03 to play in the 1
st, assisted by
Demi Czynski to cut the Falcons lead to 3-2. Paetyn Hoffman scored with 1:06 to play, assisted by Jennings to tie the game at 3-3 to end the period.
Montevallo scored the first three goals of the 2
nd period to take a 6-3 lead, but the Lions had an answer. Hoffman scored her second goal of the day with 8:41 to play in the 2
nd to cut the lead to 8-4, then
Demi Czynski scored the next two, with one assisted by Jennings to tie the game at 6-6 with 1:47 to play in the 2
nd. Montevallo scored the final goal before the break to take a 7-6 lead into the half.
The Lions opened up the 3
rd with a goal by
Taylor Schubert, assisted by Jenning to knot the game at 7-7. The Falcons retook the lead to make it 8-7, but the Schubert scored the next two, with one assisted by Jennings to give the Lions the 9-8 lead. The teams traded goals the rest of the way, with Schubert scoring once more in the 3
rd to make the score 10-10 after three.
The Falcons scored the first goal of the 4
th period to take an 11-10 lead, but
Mikaela Austin answered with a score, assisted by Hoffman to tie the game at 11-11. Czynski was next to score for the Lions with 12:14 to play to give the Lions the 12-11 lead, but the Falcons scored the next two to go up 13-12. Czynski scored to tie the game again at 13-13, but Montevallo answered to take a 14-13 lead. With 2:40 to play, Austin found the net, assisted by
Kamryn Courage to tie the game at 14-14 and force overtime.
In overtime,
Taylor Schubert scored her sixth goal of the game, assisted by Jennings to give the Lions the game, 15-14.
Schubert led all scorers with 6 goals, with
Demi Czynski adding 4.
Meghan Jennings led the Lions with 4 assists, while
Emily Dawson led the team with 5 saves in goal.
Avery Atkins closed the game out in goal for the Lions, grabbing 4 saves.
The Lions will be back in action on February 28 as they travel to take on Mars Hill at 1PM.
