Lions Drop Series to USC Aiken

Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Softball team hosted USC Aiken today in regional play. The Pacers jumped out to an early lead in game one and scored in each inning to earn the 9-1 win. In game two, the Lions got on the board early, but the Pacers scored 4 runs in the 4th and 7th inning to take the game, 12-2. 

GAME ONE

The Pacers took the lead early in game one, scoring a run on two hits in the top of the 1st inning to take a 1-0 lead. 

In the top of the 2nd, USC Aiken added to their lead, scoring a run on a hit and two errors to make the score, 2-0.

The Pacers doubled their lead in the top of the 3rd, scoring 2 runs on 2 hits to go up 4-0. The Lions answered in the bottom half of the inning. Arlie Gooden singled to start things off. Grace Ausborn followed that up with a single to advance Gooden to 2nd. Ciara Passmore kept the inning going with a single to score Gooden, cutting the Pacer's lead to 4-1. 

In the top of the 4th, the Pacers scored 4 runs on 3 hits to make the score 8-1. The Lions picked up 2 hits in the bottom half of the inning but couldn't get a run across. 

The Pacers added a run on 2 hits in the top of the 5th to take a 9-1 lead. Kaylee Purvis doubled for the Lions in the bottom half of the inning, but no runs were scored giving the Pacers game one, 9-1. 

At the plate, six Lions picked up a hit with Ciara Passmore collecting an RBI. 

In the circle, Autumn Matherly threw 4.0 innings. She gave up 8 runs (7 earned) on 8 hits and struck out 2 batters. Addison Hendrix relieved her to throw an inning. She gave up a run on 2 hits. 

GAME TWO

The Lions got on the board first in game two in exciting fashion. A two-out walk to Ciara Passmore got things started, then a walk to Carson Stowe put runners on 1st and 2nd. Autumn Matherly singled to load the bases and Passmore stole home to give the Lions the 1-0 lead. 

In the top of the 3rd the Pacers tied things up, scoring a run on 3 hits to make it 1-1. The Lions answered in the bottom of the 3rd. Grace Ausborn walked to start off the at-bat, then Passmore doubled to advance Ausborn to 3rd. A single from Stowe scored a run to give the Lions a 2-1 lead. 

In the top of the 4th, the Pacers responded scoring 4 runs on 4 hits to take a 5-2 lead. 

The Pacers tacked on two runs in the top of the 5th to make it 7-2. 

USC Aiken scored run on 2 hits in the top of the 6th to go up 8-2. 

The Pacers added 4 runs in the top of the 7th to make the final score 12-2.

At the plate, Ciara Passmore and Carson Stowe went 1-2 with Stowe picking up an RBI. 

In the circle, Reagan Beagle got the start, throwing 3.1 innings. She gave up 5 runs on 7 hits and struck out 2 batters. Quinn Overby relieved her to throw 3.0 innings, giving up 7 runs on 8 hits, walking 3 batters and striking out 2. Addison Hendrix closed out the game, giving up 1 hit.

Next up the Lions will host Shorter on Saturday at 2 & 4PM to open up conference play.
