Lions Down King 3-1!

BRISTOL, TN – The Emmanuel Men's Volleyball team traveled to Bristol, TN to take on King University in conference action. The Tornado jumped out to the early lead, taking set one 25-18 but the Lions rallied to win the final three sets, 27-25, 25-21, 25-22. With the win, the Lions improve to 5-9 on the season, 2-4 in conference play.

The teams traded points and the lead early in the first set behind key plays from Elek Cumming, Bryan Povea, and Matthieu Battaille. With the Tornado up 7-6, the Lions responded to tie things at 10-10 on a bad set by the Tornado. King answered with a 5-0 run to make it 15-10 midway through the set. Late in the set, the Tornado led 22-13 and the Lions battled back with kills by Povea, Bataille, Luke Wilson, and Bodus to cut the lead to 24-18, but King scored the final point to take the set 25-18.

King took an early 5-3 lead in the 2nd set, but the Lions answered with kills by Povea and Cumming to make it 7-6, King but the Tornado responded with a scoring run to go up 13-8. With the Tornado up 18-12 late in the set, the Lions roared back with kills by Bodus, Bataille and Wilson to tie the set at 24-24. The Lions scored the final three points of the set to take it, 27-25. 

In the third set, the Lions took an early 4-2 lead on kills by Feeney and Wilson. The Tornado answered to tie things at 4-4 but the Lions pulled ahead on a service ace by Wilson, 8-5. Kills by Feeney put the Lions up 15-9 midway through the set and kills by Wilson put the Lions up by 9, 20-11. A 5-0 run by the Tornado cut the Lions lead to 21-17, but kills by Feeney closed out the set to give the Lions the 25-21 win in set three. 

The teams traded points and the lead in set four. With the Tornado up 7-5, the Lions responded with a 4-0 run to take a 9-7 lead. Kills by Feeney and Bataille put the Lions up 14-10 midway through the set. Late in the set, the Lions led 20-15 and closed the set out on kills by Cumming and Wilson to give the Lions the 25-22 win in set four and the game, 3-1.

Overall, the Lions had 53 kills, 10 blocks, 2 aces, 48 assists, and 50 digs. 

Aidan Feeney (16) and Luke Wilson (15) led the way with double-digit kills. Greg Bodus had 45 assists on the afternoon, with Matthieu Bataille and Bryan Povea each collecting an ace. Elek Cumming picked up 4 blocks on the afternoon, while Josh Staehler led the team in digs with 15. 

Next, the Lions will host Fort Valley State on Friday at 6PM.
