Box Score MIAMI, FL – The Emmanuel Men's Volleyball team traveled to Miami, FL to face Barry University in non-conference play. The Lions took an early lead, winning the first set 25-19. The Lions carried their momentum into set two, earning the 25-20 win. The Buccaneers answered to take the third set, 25-22 but the Lions closed out the game strong with a 25-13 win in set four. With the win, the Lions improve to 2-3 on the season.
The teams traded points and the lead early in the 1
st set. The Lions pulled ahead, 10-8 on a kill by
Matthieu Bataille and errors from the Buccaneers. Kills by
Aidan Feeney and
Elek Cumming, and a service ace by Bataille quickly made it 15-9, Lions midway through the set. Late in the set, the Lions led 20-15 and used kills by
Thijs Van der Wal and Feeney to push their lead to 23-18. Attack errors by the Buccaneers closed out the set with the Lions win, 25-19.
In set two, the Lions took an early 3-1 lead on attack errors by the Buccaneers. Barry responded to tie the set at 3-3, but the Lions retook the lead on kills from Feeney, Bataille and Van der Wal to make it 7-5, Emmanuel. The two teams traded points and the lead until midway through the set when an ace by Robert Hege gave the Lions the lead for good, 16-15. The Lions closed out the set strong with kills from Feeney, Van der Wal and
Luke Wilson. An ace from Van der Wal put an exclamation point on the set, giving the Lions a 25-20 win.
In set three, the Lions took an early 4-1 lead on a kill from Feeney, a block from
Luke Wilson and a service ace by
Greg Bodus. The Buccaneers answered to tie the set at 5-5, but the Lions pulled ahead on a kill by Hege and errors from the Buccaneers to make it 9-5, Lions. Barry responded well to tie the set at 9-9, taking the lead 15-10. The Lions answered back with kills by Wilson and Feeney to tie the set at 19-19. Barry scored the next three points to pull ahead 22-19, but the Lions responded with a kill by Feeney and errors by the Buccaneers to pull within a point, 23-22. Barry closed the set out strong to score the final two points, earning the set three win, 25-22.
The fourth set saw the Lions take an early 5-2 lead on kills by Bataille and Feeney, along with an ace by Bodus. The Lions continued on a 5-0 run made up of kills by Bataille, Wilson, Feeney, and Van der Wal to make it 10-3, Lions. The Buccaneers closed the gap to make it 14-7 midway through the set, but the Lions continued on a 7-2 run made up of kills by Feeney and Wilson, along with an ace from Feeney to make it 21-10. The Lions closed out the set strong on kills from Wilson and Van der Wal to take the set, 25-13 and the game, 3-1!
Overall, the Lions had 41 kills, 36 assists, 8 aces, 6 blocks and 56 digs.
Aidan Feeney led the Lions with 15 kills on the night, while
Thijs Van der Wal added 10, and
Luke Wilson contributed 7.
Greg Bodus led the team with 29 assists, while
Aidan Feeney picked up 3 aces.
Josh Staehler led the team in digs with 15, with Feeney adding 10.
Greg Bodus and
Matthieu Bataille led the team in blocks with 3 a piece.
