Box Score MIAMI, FL – The Emmanuel Men's Volleyball team continued play at Barry today, facing the Buccaneers in their second matchup in as many days. The Buccaneers came out strong early, taking the first set 25-10. Barry continued to control the pace of the game, earning the set two win, 25-14 and closing out the sweet with a 25-19 win in set three. With the loss, the Lions fall to 2-4 on the early season.
The Buccaneers took an early 3-0 lead in the first set, but the Lions responded well with a kill by
Elek Cumming and an ace from
Aidan Feeney to cut the lead to 3-2. Barry answered with a 9-0 run to make it 12-2 midway through the set. Late in the set, the Buccaneers led 20-6 and closed out the set strong to earn the 25-10 win.
Barry carried their momentum into the second set. The Lions took an early 2-1 lead on a kill from Feeney and an error by Barry, but the Buccaneers responded with a 6-0 run to take a 7-2 lead. The Lions roared back with kills by Cumming and
Thijs Van der Wal to cut the Barry lead to 9-7. Barry answered with a 7-1 run to make it 16-8 midway through the set. The home team Buccaneers closed the set to take the win, 25-14.
The teams traded points and the lead to start the third set. Kills from
Luke Wilson and Van der Wal gave the Lions a 5-4 lead, but the Buccaneers answered with a 5-0 run to take a 9-5 lead. The Lions pulled within two points of the lead on an error from the Buccaneers, 12-10 but Barry scored the next four points to go up 16-10. Kills from Wilson and an attack error by the Buccaneers made it 20-15, Barry late. Kills from
Matthieu Bataille kept the Lions close, but the Buccaneers took the set, 25-19 and the game 3-0.
Overall, the Lions had 18 kills, 16 assists, 2 aces, 3 blocks and 34 digs.
Luke Wilson led the Lions with 6 kills on the afternoon, with Josh Staelher adding 9 digs.
Greg Bodus led the team in assists with 11, with
Matthieu Bataille picking up 2 blocks.
Next up the Lions will travel to Tigerville, SC to face North Greenville on Wednesday at 7PM.
